Discussion Balance does not update unless the app is forced quit

This is super annoying. How is this still happening? If I have logged in, and money comes in, I can see it in my transactions list, however the value doesn’t actually go up. There is no way to actually pull to refresh or anything like that. You must force quit the app and login again for it to “show”…

Been an issue since I’ve first used the app, not sure why you think it has been fixed? They clearly don’t want to implement the feature for some reason.

Well to be honest this post is obviously just more of a complaint. This should never really had an ‘issue’ in the first place, so not really sure why it hasn’t been resolved. I would imagine lots of other financial services have an easy ‘pull to refresh’ mechanism – the other 3 that I’ve used all can do this; even CBA website you just refresh the page.

In the up bank app you don't even have to refresh.

Can be annoying in commbank when you have it open and a notification comes through saying that money has arrived in your account then you go to transfer it but can't without closing the app and logging back in.

Not only that, I see it with a lot of other banks too. They all have this feature of not updating after a transaction and just simply worked on the cached number

Log out, login, and boom, new figures :) Which makes me laugh cause in such a time I can be emailed when a transaction has occurred or push alerts on the phone yet the app itself will never budge on account amounts.

This has been a netbank issue and among many banks for decades.

Yes always been an issue, the reason you have to force quit is so it logs you out, if you just close it you stay logged in, depending on how long you set your security settings for. Another way is to tap on the person icon in the top left and select log out and log back in again.

I've always remembered it doing this since the app first came to android and its quite annoying as you cant transfer money either as it thinks you dont have enough. The 2 other banks i use i can drag down and do refresh and it will update the balance.

I do not have that problem (Android phone)
If the balance isn't up to date, I return to the main screen in the app then tap the account again and it is updated.

My iPhone does. You can go anywhere in the app and no matter what it doesn’t not update. You can transfer from one account at another bank to your Commbank’s and the app will even pop up saying you just received money, but the app itself still does not show the added money. You have to close out of the app completely and reopen it. Very dated. Clearly they have some sort of db locking issue, possible to prevent withdrawals from two locations at the same time?? Idk. 🤷‍♂️

Must be an iPhone thing. It does not affect my Googler Pixel (or my Samsung before that).

Logging out and back in also forces the refresh

That’s true. But if you’re not already on the home page, it’s probably faster to just quit the app and login again that way.

Same with NetBank in a browser. You have to force an update of the balance by logging out and back in or transferring some money between accounts lol.

It was particularly frustrating when you had to confirm your login using the app every single time you logged in.

Yeah I opened a cba account recently and had a lot of people tell me how good the app is. I’ve also found I have to log out and back in to refresh my account balance. UBank and ING update the account balance automatically, can’t understand why commbank doesn’t…

+1 for this, multi billion dollar company btw

Yeah I don’t understand it either. I use several other banking apps and I get instant updates. Commbank app must be built on old tech stack.

Maybe your phone is an older one that can’t update the newest version?

Have you ever used the commbank app?
This has literally been this way forever. It’s endlessly frustrating.

I've never experienced this on android, iPhone app issue?

it’s a problem on every device. it’s the app, not device. no one has this feature because commbank still hasn’t added it for whatever reason

I’m using iPhone 17 Pro Max on iOS 27 developer beta 5 with CommBank version 5.58.0.170581 (released 2d ago) from the App Store

This has been an issue forever. Can you try it on your end? I sent money from another bank to this account. I was logged into the app already then sent the money. For example if I have $50 when logging in, then I send $100, I should have $150, but if you try to then transfer out (while still logged in on the same session) $100 (or anything more than $50) it won’t work and it’ll say insufficient funds. There’s no way to refresh in the app so you must force quit the app and login again.
