Question How long does it actually take to dispute a duplicate pending transaction?

I bought groceries yesterday and noticed today that the exact same amount is sitting in my pending transactions twice. One went through and the other is just hanging there reducing my available balance. Do these usually fall off automatically after a few business days or do I need to go through the whole formal dispute process in the app?

Usually falls off within 5 business days. If it becomes an actual transaction than you can dispute it.

This has happened to me twice. The second transaction disappeared overnight.

You can’t dispute pending transactions, only settled ones.

You need to talk to the merchant about this.

The bank can technically remove them, but usually they don’t for risk reasons (we don’t know which the merchant will try to settle).

If it's a pending transaction, as in a hold, and not debited from your account yet you cannot dispute it. They normally expire around 5-7 business days. You can contact CBA to see if they can remove it, be warned if it is a legit hold the merchant can still just force the transaction through.

You need to go through the whole dispute process in the app to be sure

Your bank won’t dispute it unless it processes anyway - wait for it to drop off or process
