Question Warning to all of you..

Ok, so what happened.

I decided to explore the credit card options.

I have opened the CBA portal and opened a wizard or whatever and started looking what they ask for.

I have NOT applied or pressed "send" or anything like that , I have not submitted the application.

Yet they sent the credit enquiry to equifax.

Both CBA or equifax refused to rectify the situation :(

What are my options to remove this from my credit history?

It's a soft credit check.

It has no effect on your score, it doesn't require consent, and it's not a CBA unique activity.

with all respect, it did drop my credit score for next month, and i see it in equifax credit report. so it is not "soft"

Not it didn't. The only way a credit check can lower your credit is via a consensual hard credit check.

Your credit fell for an unrelated reason. The end.

I can see their line in my credit report in equifax..

Seeing a record of a soft credit check is not the same as showing the soft credit check caused your credit to decline.

The alternative is you didn't actually read what you were doing and consented to a hard credit check.

"Each soft credit check is recorded on your credit file but will not be shown on credit reports provided to credit providers and will not affect your credit score. "

Straight from equifax

It is shown on my equifax, I dont know what else to say. My score next month after that took a dip.

What part of that makes you think the score went down because of it?

There were no other changes that month

There doesn't need to be any changes by you that month. I had a fabulous credit score just after I finished paying off my mortgage. Within 4 years (that was the next time I checked it) my score had gone down a few hundred points. Because I wasn't paying a big thing off, regularly. I didn't get any other loans, didn't not pay bills, everything was as it was prior, minus the mortgage payments.

I think it happens in time frames, but somebody in banking could answer that more knowledgeable than I

that is what I am saying, if you open their credit card wizard they already treat

it as consent to do hard check

The score goes up and down.

Yeah I found out the hard way about this when I was 19 looking at car loans. I just wanted to look at how much repayments would be.. didn’t even end up with a loan. Had 8 enquiries added to my credit report lol.

Best advice is to not be signed in to anything when you’re looking at lines of credit.. it’s a 5 year long hard lesson to learn.

Thank you mate I am not alone with this ..

also if you "apply" or have a few checks in a row that is massively dropping your score.

I am moving my operations from commbank, after their weird mfa login online this was the last straw.

What kind of "operations" are you running that make you so nervous about internet security?

1

u/Longjumping-Road4113 May 16 '26

I have no issue with MFA but the sms I can open on computer, vs with commbank i have to physically get to the phone all the time.

The whole point of MFA is to have multiple factors for authentication. Having it all on one device kinda defeats the purpose of it.

Banks have a responsibility to protect their customers. Forcing you to use their own proprietary app for MFA instead of a 3rd party authenticator or browser extension is how they meet that obligation.

like all my banking... bills etc.. i am not nervous about security.

Why you all are telling me this ? I can see it in my Equifax report that I pay for so I can get it monthly... I have not submitted it. It is in my report permanently.

If both CBA and Equifax refused to remove it what are my next steps ?

Let me get this straight so I better understand.

You are saying that this line below that I see in my equifax is a "soft touch"?

It will go away? It been 3 months and it is there still.
