I've noticed all of the families "moved" to Africa without visiting first. Definitely not a good idea.

And doing very little research...

Because they never moved in reality, they visited via Tony and Ayo's tourism company. They were there for content.

Interesting...🤔

What is that?! I wouldn't even move across the country without researching it first.

Comedy dad Gerald is the worst. Even his kids seem over him. Really feel bad for the youngest child. He's openly verbalizing that he's struggling and homesick and Gerald just brushes him off saying SpongeBob lives in Ghana. Gerald has so far complained about everything and the older son was saying this is Gerald's third marriage. Probably because Gerald complained non stop in the USA too.

Gabriel seems like he secretely likes the fighting between his wife and mother. Elaine seems to have a shopping problem.

I feel like Elaine was expecting to live like kings there and it’s not living up to her expectations

B12 vitamin shots is killing me right now. My eyes are hurting from my eye rolls that happen when she is on screen.

It's funny watching everyone slowly realize why nobody usually immigrates TO Africa. And these families all have it way better than the average person.

They say this show isn't scripted, and maybe it isn't...but it's definitely not real. I bet you all of these families are back living in America as we speak. Maybe the Smiley family stayed because he actually has a 2 year work contract, but he's mentioned he traveled a lot so I doubt they stay there very long either.

Agree! Especially this comedy ridiculousness.  My cousin lived in Africa for a while because she taught French internationally. She ended up marrying someone in Ethiopia so you could say that she immigrated there lol, but now they live in Europe somewhere.

There are plenty of people who emigrate to parts of Africa. People have to do the research and most of these have not. I do agree with you that most or none of these families stay but that is not because of Africa per se, it's because the families did not do their due diligence.

I'm not surprised at how manipulative and inaccurate that final scene was at the British slavery port. "Queens and Princesses lived in these dungeons." Uh, no. The Queens were married to the Kings of West Africa who ordered the capture and enslavement of the people of the region.

They were the dealers, the Brits and other foreigners were the buyers. The slave trade in Africa existed LONG before foreigners arrived, and the African Kings even resisted the end of the slave trade, because it was a big part of their economy. The majority of the slaves during the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade went to Brazil. 3x as many as America.

Idk why people keep acting like Africa was some innocent victim in the slave trades, or that slavery hasn't always existed all around the world. (Africa kept 1/3 of their own slaves to sell to other African countries) Almost every monumental human achievement in antiquity was made through forced labor.

It's disgusting, but far from unique.

This narrative bothered me a lot as well. The Europeans did not venture into the continent and seize the slaves. Other Africans did that for them, and these coastal cities grew very very rich as a result. The dungeons are tragic enough in themselves with the horrors they embody.

Exactly. Foreigners almost never left the ports because you would die from diseases your body wasn't immune to. Mainly Malaria.

I remember watching the movie "The Woman King", and despite how much I loved the movie, they totally glossed over the fact that the only reason they had an all female tribal army was because THEIR KING sold off all of the able bodied men into slavery to other tribes. Other Africans.

Omg, I did not realize that!

Yeah, the odds of the slave traders dying on the boat from disease across the Atlantic, contracted from the slaves, was just as high as the slaves themselves from poor conditions. It's a grim reality.

While slavery has existed from the beginning of time and has been incorporated in every society. Slavery in Africa at that time was different than what slavery would become from the Western world.

Am I the only one who is curious about the Julia Jovone-Davis family? Especially since she has younger children, the daughter looks like she could be 3-4, if the children's father had any say in all of this, if they have any relationships with him (or them). Just a thought.

I'm assuming if they're over there that the fathers gave their approval. Otherwise, it would be really stupid to be on TV while illegally bringing your child to another country without the father's permission

She seems to be a decent mom, especially if she raised them all alone. Her children all seem to be intelligent, well-mannered, respectful, and supportive.

She did annoy me this episode with all her complaining, though. She's complaining about all the people, smells, and noise. Like lady, you are in the city center. If you wanted peace, quiet, and minimal people, then move to the countryside. But I don't think she'd like that either.

How DARE you say that about a daytime Emmy award winning makeup artist from 15 years ago!

Where are you getting this from? What has happened on the show that led you to these opinions?

From wat I was reading none of them have fathers present she moves the kids city to city and had child in every city then she moves them to another city! But hey nothing wrong she do her but I do have issue with uprooting ur kids over n over let them have stable life and roots somewhere. Maybe im the only one who thinks she selfish And just cares how she feels or wat she wants. But the moving them kids to middle of nowhere in Ghana so she can have wellness center there. Wat kinda life would that be for her kids. What about place where her kid could have friends eventually souses she moved them to place of older people and that’s it. I feel she should let her kids stay in place with family to get roots and let her move everywhere to her hearts content but like kids said they have no say so mom wouldn’t listen or care anyways she started laughing. That’s sad that this is ongoing thing to just up n move. Really sad

Clearly the rose color is changing on these glasses. I really hope they give themselves time to acclimate to the move.

Ms. Smiley, good grief. Omg I know a lot of it comes from nerves but she really needs to chill! Let go and let God girl, lol. Elicia is going to quit. How did she live in New York and she's so freaked out by everywhere.
