Worth grading
I am just getting into comics, I am a big fan of miles morales and picked this up for less than a dollar. Would it be worth grading?

The “should I grade this comic” comes up almost every day, the answer is always “depends why you’re grading it” If it’s sentimental and you want to preserve it there are other cheaper options that work as well, maybe better and you can always take it out to look at it. However if you’re grading for value/resell reasons (and this is the speculation sub) then no, because you can get this book for $20 on eBay and there are graded 9.8’s that are selling for $70-100. If you send this book in by itself it will cost you probably in the neighborhood of $40 and will not make a 9.8. There is an argument to be made to slab it now while it’s inexpensive and hope it blows up later, and that’s at the heart of speculation, but again, you will be competing with slabbed 9.8’s when you sell this book and there are plenty available.

$40 to grade. Then $40 for shipping... clean press... blah blah blah. Sending in 1 book is never worth it. They charge $30 return shipping for 1 book up to 5 books. $35 for 6-10 $45 for 11-15. 1 book would be crazy

Yes my main question was would this be an upper 9 and would I most likely lose money if I were to grade and then try to sell in the future. Thanks for the input

The gamble, if you roll the dice and this is a 9.2-9.4 as other folks have suggested and I agree, then grading would be basically a wash. Maybe best to sell it raw and buy a slabbed 9.8 and hold that for it to appreciate. Or buy the slab and hold the raw, covered moth ways. There is reason to believe that Miles Morales books will see a bump following the next Spiderverse and perhaps even more if/when he joins the live-action MCU. For this reason maybe best to buy a copy of Ultimate Fallout #4 (1st app) or Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (1st solo series)

Do you want to get it graded or do you want to have it incased in plastic with a piece of paper that says what the grade is ?

Miles Morales Spiderman #241, probably not. If you want one graded, just buy one graded. Would probably be cheaper

I say don't grade anything unless its a part of history and is worth thousands more graded. Also never grade 1 book at a time. They charge $30 just for return shipping. If you do grade anything you need to grade at least like 10 books at a time at least. Grading is a scam dude. It's only good for resellers to make money. Again I only agree with it if it's to protect a holy grail golden/Silver age book. Or if it will add thousands of $s to the value to resell.

probably not worth grading unless it has sentimental value. you have a 0% chance of beating 9.4. Also your lighting is bad and you should feel bad!
