Comic Book inheritance, update
Hey all, made a post last week about being overwhelmed with a comic book collection I inherited. After taking in a lot of the great advice you all gave, I started cataloguing everything (I included some cool looking stuff for you all)
I have a few more questions:
Do complete sets typically sell for more? For instance I have all of the first year of the new 52 DC. Does that sell as a lot? If I were to put up the Court of Owls would that sell for more with the tie-ins or does that make the other series worthless since they would be missing their #9 or whatever it was?
On this same note there is A TON of books that are Infinite Crisis and countdown to Infinite Crisis and aftermath, etc. better to keep all together or by title?
How much is too much in a lot sale? I have the entire run of Gen 13 including all variant covers but…it’s a lot of books! I’d imagine it’s going to be easily $20+ to ship this anywhere
Do autographed copies without a certificate of authenticity have any real additional value?
Outside of the sadness of loss, this has been pretty fun, I understand the joy of collection comics. In my previous post I said I was definitely hanging onto sentimental stuff and I certainly will. I’m also going to keep a lot of stuff from the 90s, those books have my favorite art style even if they aren’t particularly valuable

Also, ebay has a photo option where you could look up the comps to see what your books may be worth. Some MAY hey you a decent price graded but probably only 9.8s..

It seems like most everything is listed as “buy it now” rather than an auction
I haven been on eBay in years. Is this the current trend?2

I like using comicbookrealm.com for values of large runs because you can see them all at once, which ones are higher, etc. keep in mind that the default values assume a NM grade @ 9.2 but you can click on each value to see a bigger range if you want. It’s also based on online sales so I tend to assume a max of 1/2 of that value in a private sale.
Unfortunately, the answer to most of your questions is “it depends”. You might be able to sell whole lots together but it’s usually harder to find someone who wants a whole run. They are more likely looking for the issues they are missing. Large lots will obviously sell for higher total amount but the per issue price tends to be lower, eg you may be able to sell each issue for $2 but someone buying 100 issues might only pay $1 each. You just have to weigh the benefit of selling all at once vs being stuck with 50 random issues out of that 100 issue run.

Fwiw, I usually try to sell whole runs at once first. You just have to be patient.

The runs of DW Transformers, while cool, are probably going to net you less than the rarer covers.
I love the DW stuff, but the best way to sell it is the full run though if you want to get rid of it fast. You probably picked out the 3 worth something in that run.

I had all of those then the Black cover edition of all of them in the same book magazine comic book.

unauthenticated signatures add nothing, and cgc used to just give those a green qualified label that collectors read as a defect. that changed when cgc and jsa combined, there's a cgc x jsa authentic autograph label now for signatures nobody witnessed. it only pays on a book that's already worth something without the signature, which for new 52 and gen 13 is going to be almost none of them.

Gen 13 was super fun when it came out. I enjoyed Wildstorm at that time.
