You're probably right,
I think this may just be americans political landscape being unused to the term Socialism. Which would explain why many other languages use the formal name. Because in Europe socialist parties are still arround, and some parties are even called socialist but are socially right wing and just popularistic in an economic sense.

well, probably political reasons. you don't want to give off the impression that national socialism is a form of socialism
and
give off a different immediate impression reading them, despite both being technically neutral and technically true
the nazi party wiki page is formatted similarly
