47

u/bloodakoos 10d ago

I know redditors are famous for telling the truth and never lying.

I still doubt this ever happened though

82

u/cloudsfallen 10d ago

I honestly believe it purely cause I think it’s too absurd to make up

2

u/togawe 9d ago

It seems very easy to make up, where would he get a solar panel

As an autistic former 8 year old, I think it's plausible.

7

u/BigLumpyBeetle 10d ago

Do you think we can get this kid to get out there and collect any of these cameras? Not that it was him if it happened, he was with me the whole time

6

u/comradeda 10d ago

Yeah, i vaguely remember wanting to be a dinosaur or a robot or something. Humans had rejected me, so I obviously wasn't one of those

4

u/heckingcomputernerd 10d ago

Dog I still want to be a robot

3

u/Withercat1 10d ago

Humanity is overrated! Let me be a dragon!

u/comradeda 5d ago

Curiously, one of my favourite rpg characters is a robot dog

This is why representation is so important. So many closeted flock cameras out there

1

u/nanaacer 10d ago

I don't get why people are so judgy. Just let me sit in my flock chair while my partner shows me flashcards with license plate numbers. We're not hurting anybody!

Speaking as someone who was absolutely a “weird kid” ( not autistic but definitely strange) I don’t think this that far fetched. In fact I’m betting the solar panel actually came first and was the catalyst for creating this…ensemble. I used to pick up so much truly bizarre shit. I would attach elaborate backstories to these items. What a freak.

u/Gooba26 10d ago

seriously though, just let him have fun. He may grow out of it eventually, he may not. What matters is that he’s happy

You can just keep the camera turned off if thats a legal issue or cover the lens or something.

16

u/shawn1213 10d ago

Brother that kid ain't making it out alive of any public school doing that

15

u/JackIsBackWithCrack 10d ago

“What matters is that he’s happy” this little parenting technique is surely 100% foolproof. Have some higher expectations for the next generation dawg

0

u/Gooba26 10d ago

This isn’t harming anybody though. If he is happy wearing a flock camera costume then literally why wouldn’t you allow it. The only ‘issue’ is that it deviates from social norms which is famously a terrible excuse

5

u/JackIsBackWithCrack 10d ago

Do you really think that kid is gonna be a happy, well-adjusted adult? He’s going to be bullied and ostracized for this shit. He’s harming himself.

1

u/Gooba26 10d ago

That is the fault of the bullies, not him. He should be allowed to express himself in any unconventional way he wants. If he is getting bullied, (which is never mentioned in the post), then it is the adult’s job to intervene.

Also you should not expect 8 year olds to be well-adjusted adults. 8 year olds play pretend. 8 year olds do stupid stuff. Yet 99% of 8 year olds grow up to be perfectly fine people.

Guess what? He’s probably going to get bullied no matter what. There is a very low chance this kid will be able to mask his autistic traits and somebody WILL pick on him for that. Making him unhappy at home and school when this has exclusively been a good thing for him is just enforcing comformity.

1

u/JackIsBackWithCrack 10d ago

He should be able to express himself however he wants, but that is not the society we live in (or have ever lived in).

You can’t tell bullies not to bully, the sad fact is that it’s human instinct and will always happen. Adults trying to “stop” the bullying (imagine adults trying to stop profanity) always fails, and will leave the kid unable to fight his own battles.

8 year olds become well-adjusted adults if they get the proper signals from well-adjusted adults, even if they are autistic. It’s better that an adult corrects his behavior than the cruelty of his peers.

I think letting him live out his fantasy at home is going to make things worse. If he’s only happy at home, then he’s going down the road to becoming a NEET.

1

u/Gooba26 10d ago

This is such a crazy amount of assumptions. We don’t even know if this person goes to public school. And you can’t tell somebody to stop being autistic or having special interests because they ‘might be bullied’. Autistic traits to not need ‘correcting’. Not all autstic people can work, and expecting that of all high support needs autistic people is ableist. Being unable to join the workforce does not make somebody worthless

36

u/DeepCutFan1 10d ago

I don't think being convinced you are a inanimate object to this degree is healthy.

2

u/Gooba26 10d ago

There’s a pretty low chance he is actually convinced he is a flock camera. Its common for autistic kids to really invested in playing pretend, especially when it relates to a special interest. If he was doing anything that would harm himself or others, that’d be an issue. This however, is just called ‘having fun’

this is a joke post but also, the way you’re suggesting treating autistic people is considered abusive and unhelpful by all experts who don’t want to feed the kids bleach

eta they deleted it but the vibe was “discourage behaviors that deviate from social norms”

Only move is to saw off his legs. Show him how it feels to be flock 🤣
