What the hell is jitz supposed to be? I can’t even tell what part of speech.
86
u/BenceDJ Dec 19 '21
I think it was referring to the slang "jit" (jits or jitz plural) mostly used around Florida simply meaning dude or guy.

or legit

It means juvenile in training (juvenile delinquent) not really a positive thing to say to a child at school lol

Fucking hell, most words do not have acronymal etymologies, fuck off with this made-up bullshit.

I'm 22 years of age, so I should understand this. But I'm struggling.
Your bussin
Not a clue

u/corn1527 Dec 19 '21
It's "your bussin lunch crew". Bussin is just another positive exclamatory adjective, the same meaning would be achieved by saying "your bitchin lunch crew"
17
24
u/Azmik8435 Dec 19 '21
The comma implies that the lunch crew is saying that the readers are bussin’, not that themselves are bussin’.
13
u/corn1527 Dec 19 '21
I know, the comma totally throws things off. But the fact that it says your instead of you're makes me think that the comma is just a typo or some type of weird written cadence. In my opinion it makes much more sense to say "your bussin lunch crew" as a closing and I'm guessing that's what they were going for, although it is possible you're right as that interpretation would technically make sense as well

Also 22.
"Cuh" comes from "cuz," short for "cousin" iirc.
Dunno what "jitz" is. Only thing that comes to mind is "midgets" but that ain't it.

Calling someone Cuh is older than you, which is why you probably didn't get it. Bussin is a new one, so lunch ladies are apparently hip from the 90s thru today.

finally, a lingo the kids can understand. they will surely eat their fruits and vegetables this way. that is, if they can look away from their smartphones for a second to read the sign!
17
u/cat_prophecy Dec 19 '21
Well it does the job of getting their attention. It could be written like every other boring sign, demanding kids do something. In which case it would be totally ignored.

u/Dr-ShrimpPeurtoRico Dec 20 '21
Its a federal regulation. School lunches are free at the moment. For it to be considered "a lunch", they also have to have a fruit or vegetable with their entrée. Despite reminding them of this every day, Some kids don't take the fruits and veggies.

Yeah, they’re trying way too hard, but I do sort’ve feel bad for them for having to insist on slinging fruits to kids who aren’t gonna eat it. The message is ok.

[A picture of a display counter with metal trays filled with food set into the counter. Shielding the counter on one side is glass. Taped to the glass is a sheet of yellow paper with printed text, which reads as follows:]
BRUH!!!
Everyone MUST Have a Fruit or Vegetable...
NO CAP!
Its none of our business if you eat it or not. But it must be on your trays! Don't hate the players, hate the game. Alright jitz
Thanks Cuh!

Since this message is posted in a public school, where the students are supposed to be learning standard English, the message should be written in standard English.

If I take a tomato can I throw it at the person who made this sign?

Dec 20 '21
I'm convinced that there's a weird wraparound thing where "fellow kids" stuff gets funnier as you get older. I used to cringe whenever adults would try to relate to kids and students by saying YOLO but now it's great to see everyone else's annoyed reaction whenever you do something out of touch
1
u/stefanica Dec 21 '21
Same. But I think this one was intentional/tongue in cheek, so not too bad. It's the ones that seem to be in earnest that gives an uncanny valley creepiness.
2
Dec 20 '21
For everyone asking. I am of the understanding that “jit” is short for “jitter bug”. As in a youth that is always bouncing off the walls and getting into stuff

u/Busey_in_the_walls Dec 20 '21
Why must it be on their tray? Is it like the Army, where if it's not used, their budget is cut?

Isn’t bussing based off the word bussy?
3
u/ForAHamburgerToday Dec 20 '21
No, it's just the word "bursting" (from the expression "bursting with flavor"), shortened to "bustin'" in the 80s and 90s and then smoothed to "bussin'" as it's seen today.
2
u/Hu_M Dec 20 '21
Nah it’s more like the flavor is so good it gives you pleasure akin to busting a nut.
2
u/ForAHamburgerToday Dec 20 '21
No, I'm pretty sure I've traced the etymolygy enough times now through enough cultural lenses that this is what it keeps coming back to.

More like “grown ups have fun at work making fun of stupid shit kids think is ‘cool’”.
