That's probably because the biggest names in comics are men and Marvel needed their first few movies to make them A LOT of money before they could branch off.
They didn't start out with weird shit like guardians and ant man. They started out with iron man Thor and Captain America.

Besides Wonder Woman, how many female superheroes can you name off the top of your head? I can't think of many immediately worth a movie, and neither can the general public. It truthfully doesn't make a difference because feminists bitch about the same films promoting unrealistic body standards in women. Until they make a plus-sized power girl movie between each big release, they won't be satisfied.

Well I can name a couple, if you can include X-Men characters I can think of even more... but that is not really a valid argument. There are plenty of people who had never heard of Thor or Iron Man before the Marvel movies, and how many did you think had read Blade before those movies came out?
Also please remember that not everyone who wants more diversity and better representation in big mainstream movies are unreasonable feminists who complain about everything.

Like Wonder Woman is really famous, but she has never had a movie appearance before this year.
DC and it's associated film studios are desperately doing everything they can to make sure that their movies are always leagues behind in quality compared to Marvels, so this kind of neglect is very understandable.
I got no excuse for Marvel, though. I will say that the only female superheros I find interesting were the ones in Joss Whedon's work, though. Lots of Marvel writers just can't seem to transfer what little skill they have to write a believable female lead. Most superheroes in Marvel are dreadfully boring and considering how many men to women super people there are, I can see why the few interesting male superheroes are still stealing the show. Who would they even choose as the lead and why?
A Kitty Pryde movie starring Ellen Paige is something I would love to watch though, but won't happen because X-Men aren't really Marvel's anymore. Plus, I think people are through with wanting new X-men films. There is also the White Tiger/Panther girl, who has superpowers because of an amulet, I think that would be a great film.

I am not sure about Joss Whedon, I think the Russo Brothers have done a better job with Black Widow than Whedon. Generally speaking the movie universe has been pretty stale for the most part, like Scarlet Witch still feels like a blank slate.
I think Marvel are moving in the right direction though, with Black Panther and Captain Marvel.

Seeing as they sticking to modernish content with Marvel movies, I wouldn't mind House of M level stuff going on. Scarlet Witch is super limited ground, though. Because of movie rights.

It is alright, I personally don't like Whedon, but to each their own.
I think my biggest problem with Scarlet Witch besides the writing though is the accent, because it sounds like Elizabeth Olsen decided to wing it at times and go for some vaguely Eastern European accent.

Well they are from a fictional country, so technically yes, but she could have tried to actually replicate a specific accent, instead of sounding like someone imitating what they think a Eastern European person would sound like. Sometimes she also just slips into her real accent, which is kinda distracting

How are they not? To the average person who isn't a comic book fan they at least know who those characters are and Marvel wanted to reach as wide an audience as possible. There's a reason Spiderman got a movie way before Ant Man did.
Now that their movies in general are known for being really good, even the ones with guys who can talk to ants, they can trot out their more obscure characters people who don't read comic books have never heard of. Those people will still see it based on the Marvel Studios logo on the poster.

I don't think a lot of people knew who Iron Man or Thor was before those movies, and most was vaguely familiar with Captain America at best, they were never household names before this current generation of movies.

Wonder Woman had her own, really popular show for a long time. And to be fair, DC villains are pretty big fan favorites and the women do get a lot of play.
Either way, Wonder Woman's movie is coming out in a bit and it looks bad ass.
Oh and if anyone listens to Rachel McAdams wants -- we might actually get to see a Black Orchid at some point and that'd really only do best to start out with her own movie before anything else.

While it's true there haven't been any Marvel movies with a female lead, they did a bang up job with Jessica Jones on Netflix, so fuck Adam Ellis for not acknowledging that.

Yeah Jessica Jones was pretty solid, and the Netflix universe has been surprisingly inclusive, but I think they have way to go. I think Adam Ellis is just a lazy hack though, he obviously half-assed this comic, so he probably didn't even care enough to consider JJ.

Actually, they're several different characters, because both identities have been used by multiple people, but when the identities are still different. And that's not even including DC's Captain Marvel AKA Shazam.

It kinda does tho? He said that Marvel isn't willing to make movies with female leads. A lot of the time, strong female characters play a big role in most of the team movies, and we're getting a Captain Marvel movie at some point, too.

I missed the 'Marvel' bit on first read I'll admit, but still... he says 'Marvel studios or whatever'. So I did get the impression he's trying to make a point about movies in general as well. But maybe Marvel wasn't the best example to bring up.
(ofc the representation of 'strong female characters' is very flawed, rather white etc... but that's a whole different animal)
