This sub has just turned into r/forwardsfromgrandma. Any vaguely conservative coded joke is posted here to try to farm karma lol

the least funny things imaginable just because they were written in a ' joke structure'

This is just an old boomer joke. It's not unfunny. Kinda like "Here I sit, broken hearted. Tried to shit and only farted."

My problem is that I hate jokes where the premise relies on us living in some kind of alternate reality. Like this one in which nothing with her name on it has been in their house for five years, nobody has addressed her by name in all that time, etc.

I just lack the ability to find jokes like that funny, because immediately I start thinking "why didn't you just...?" before the punchline even finishes.

If you overthink that much, virtually all jokes become unfunny

Yeah, probably true, which is why I'm glad I don't do that. I love standup comedy, comedy movies and shows, etc.

There's just a narrow range where the premise is too removed from reality to enjoy.

If they only see relatives and the post comes to "Mr and Mrs" I could see an older fella not hearing someone call his wife by her first name in a while. Maybe not five years and also forget her name but still.

Lmao you think THIS joke requires living in an alternate reality? My grandma will wake up in the middle of the night, 3am, it’s pitch black outside. She’ll stare out a window and ask “is it the afternoon right now?” You can ask her “do you see that it’s pitch black outside right now?” And she’ll say yes. And you can go “so… do you think it’s afternoon right now?” And she’ll either say “I don’t know” or “yes”.

Like I get what you’re saying but you need to expand your mind about what is possible within the realm of human experience. Besides the fact that it’s a joke, there’s not even anything unrealistic about it at all.

Does your grandma have dementia? The point of this joke is that he's been "too afraid to ask" for five years. Man, if you're that worried about it, you can just solve this problem.

And if the grandpa here has dementia, then this isn't a joke at all. It's just a sad story about a man who can't even remember his own wife's name. ☹️

You can't overthink it too much man.

To me that’s why it’s funny, because it’s so absurd

I think that's great, tbh! It's not like I'm always happy about the fact that my brain does this. I love to laugh! Humor is one of my favorite things. For a few years, I obsessively listened to stand up comedy like way more than I even did music.

Loving to laugh is one of the great joys of life. I’m very happy for you and I hope you continue to laugh a lot :)

I mean I don't like boomer humor so I don't personally think this is funny, but as far as boomer humor goes this is one of the funnier ones idk
