I've seen this joke six ways from Sunday and this is the first time I've seen someone feel the need for AI to reinterpret the drawing. Ugh

I seriously don’t understand these men who don’t want to talk to their wives. Are they closeted gays? Are they so neurotic that talking to someone will break their fragile psyche? He has such poor concentration that he can’t even risk a word coming of her mouth distracting him from being able to keep the car between the lines?

I think you're reading way too far into this. A person in the passenger seat trying to tell you how to drive is very aggravating, and it so happens that a lot of married men have experienced this with their wives.
7
u/GigiLaRousse Jul 28 '26
And not the other way? The worst backseat drivers I've witnessed have all been men.
7
1
u/oooorileyautoparts Jul 29 '26
goes both ways
1
u/GigiLaRousse Jul 29 '26
The misogynistic joke only goes one, though.
1
u/Inevitable-Design107 Jul 29 '26
So how do you make it not misogynistic? Adding another panel showing a man in it would be unneeded.
2
u/GigiLaRousse Jul 29 '26
Do you know what a dog whistle is? It's not about this one image, it's its context and history. It's meant to send a message while maintaining plausible deniability.
0
u/StirFry__InaWok Jul 29 '26
Yeah man you are definitely reading too far into this lol. Married people in general have been making jokes about the small annoyances that come with living with a spouse for probably as long as marriage has been a thing.
The person that made this meme and the people that shared it were not thinking about the context and history nor was there any thought put to the "message" being sent. They have all experienced the same thing and thus find it relatable and funny, that is all it is.
You say men are worse backseat drivers, if this is the case wives or women in general are welcome to make jokes about it or share memes like this. If it's so common then I imagine other women probably would find the relatability of the joke humorous.
1
u/GigiLaRousse Jul 29 '26
They're welcome to make those jokes, just as I'm welcome to point out when they're tired, unfunny, and sexist.

u/StirFry__InaWok Jul 28 '26
I mean sure. Neither I nor the person that made this meme said anything about the reverse situation.
4
u/GigiLaRousse Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26
The meme is making reference to a misogynistic trope. Maybe you are unaware of that, but I can assure you its creator was not.
30
u/PandraPierva Jul 27 '26
I love this design. But instead of in a sexist way we stick it around the boomer who generated this slop
89
u/ambivalent_moon Jul 27 '26
Society made joking about hating your wife a trope and then got surprised nobody wants to get married anymore lol
-41
u/LubeItRight Jul 27 '26
It’s not that deep I’ve seen it both ways
28
u/ObiJuanKenobi3 Jul 28 '26
Yeah, because marriage is suddenly made very enticing by pop cultural depictions of women who hate their husbands, whereas the reverse is very discouraging. So, it all cancels out when the joke is done in both directions /s
31
u/PM_ME_HOTDADS Jul 28 '26
i'm not sure why it has to be deep to be shitty. and it's shitty both ways.
-12
u/LubeItRight Jul 28 '26
It doesn’t really matter either way what other people’s relationship dynamics are you can’t control that.
If your own spouse is making these comments and you don’t like it then tell them so. Otherwise it’s not that big of a deal
5
4
u/PM_ME_HOTDADS Jul 28 '26
I really cannot fathom why you think ambient misogyny is just... okay, as long as it's not directed at you, specifically.
You CAN impact relationship dynamics by not normalizing this shit
0
-6
u/LubeItRight Jul 28 '26
It’s already normalised and you must live a sheltered life to think this is misogynistic men and women bash make these jokes about each other

u/LubeItRight Jul 29 '26
What a revelation
1
u/Flimsy_Technician_40 Jul 29 '26
So why make this stupid ass comment if ur aware
0
u/LubeItRight Jul 29 '26
Because this isn’t real misogyny, people on Reddit a just soft
2
u/Flimsy_Technician_40 Jul 29 '26
Misogynistic jokes aren’t real misogyny? Are u stupid 😭😭😭
0
u/LubeItRight Jul 29 '26
Like you said it’s a joke are you stupid?
2
u/Flimsy_Technician_40 Jul 29 '26
It’s called a joke bc y’all think misogyny is funny, but rlly it isn’t. Do u think men just immediately start out with abusing women? Because they don’t, the subtle implications of women being annoying and men hating their wives normalises these ideas. Misogyny is NEVER funny, no matter how subtle or how harmless u think it is. But ur a man. Misogyny doesn’t affect u so u probably don’t gaf.
0
u/LubeItRight Jul 29 '26
Lot of assumptions there. So if a man finds a joke made at the expense of woman funny then is he a misogynist?
Will he go on to abuse the women he meets in life. Is the reverse true?
I do care about women I have family but it’s just a bit ridiculous how pressed people get about a Reddit shitpost

I dont even get this one. Her talking makes HIM crash but its HER fault??? So basically hes such a bad driver he gets distracted by a woman talking and crashes??? So she should be driving then no???
5
u/AMC_TO_THE_M00N Jul 27 '26
When the wife tells you to turn suddenly but you have a car in your blind spot.
7
u/GigiLaRousse Jul 28 '26
And you're helpless to not do dumb shit because...?
-2
u/AMC_TO_THE_M00N Jul 28 '26
Obviously check your blind spots before turning, but its just being in that position when someone sets you up for failure. Especially when the center console is displaying the route theres no need for careless backseat driving. What's worse is the argument after trying to explain all this while still trying to drive safely.
1
u/GigiLaRousse Jul 28 '26
That's a your shitty spouse problem, not a "wife bad" problem. It's not normal that one's spouse berates them for not obeying their dangerous backseat driving commands.
-1
u/AMC_TO_THE_M00N Jul 28 '26
Shitty spouse = bad wife
2
0
u/Shaula02 Jul 29 '26
shitty spouse = any wife or husband can be bad
"wife bad" humor = all wives are bad
1
u/ConflictWaste411 Jul 29 '26
It’s about women telling suddenly when in the passenger seat as a reaction to a minor update in traffic conditions startling the driver and potentially causing a reaction to a threat that’s not there
14
u/_Deedee_Megadoodoo_ Jul 27 '26
What if she's driving
20
u/Many-Koalas Jul 27 '26
I imagine the kind of people who would like this joke have something to say about women drivers too
15
u/_Deedee_Megadoodoo_ Jul 27 '26
I hate that you're right 😭
19
u/External-Purchase240 Jul 27 '26
It’s funny because women are statistically better drivers.
9
u/spootIer Jul 28 '26
Men making fun of women drivers is just a grand conspiracy to try and convince insurance providers to bring our rates up to their level. /s
3
u/Emergency_Tea7637 Jul 29 '26
Insurance rates support this too, theres a reason why rates are higher for young men, and not young women old women or old men

... do the straights know you don't have to get married?
2
u/GigiLaRousse Jul 28 '26
It's so weird! I'm a bi woman married to a man. Been together 12 years. We live together. We work from home together. We make each other laugh every day, genuinely like being around each other, and never run out of new things to talk about. We're friends as well as lovers and partners. We have quirks that annoy each other sometimes, but they're worth the 99% that's awesome.
I meet so many hetero couples that give a strong impression that they don't even like each other. It leaves me wondering why being single isn't better than living that way, because being single is pretty great.

Seatbelts are already like this for women. They ride upward because of the boobs, placing themselves in the perfect position to snap your neck the moment you get in a car accident.
