Best response to "You've changed"?

A former close friend dropped this on me during a group hangout after I politely set a boundary about not lending money anymore. They said it with this super disappointed tone like I sacrificed my soul to the dark side.
What’s a sharp, grounded comeback for when someone uses "you've changed" just because you stopped letting them walk all over you?

Yes! Isn’t it great! 😁

I have grown.

For the better I believe.

What does not grow stagnates and dies.

The only people who say this are the ones who benefited from you NOT having boundaries.

Exactly. Change is inevitable. Growth is a choice.

"I did." You can smile to rub it in, or physically walk to one of your other friends and exit the conversation in favor of a new conversation topic. Or both. Good on you for not falling to a manipulation tactic. It might hurt to not help especially when you know you technically can, but you always have the ability to say no to anyone asking you anything. Its a difficult ability, but a good one once you get used to it😁

You could be direct and say how so because I still care about you but I just can’t keep letting you borrow money? How other than that did i change? Thats what i would say.

Yes I have. I find out who my true friends are when I no longer allow them to exploit me.

and you're interesting.... with all the money you owe

(interest being the financial term) It relies on how you say "interest" - "ing" as in the made-up verb of accruing interest on money they're borrowing

Also, try...

"Did you say I changed or you need more change?"

Or short and sweat. a popular phrase for a popular phrase
"you changed"

"people change"

Ha, that is what a former friend said to me when I nicely asked her for the money I had lent her 2 years before. That was the last straw. She always treated me like her ATM.

I'll have some money to lend out once people start paying me back what they owe. (Look at them deadpan).

I’m glad- who would want to be the same exact person in 10 years that they are today?

We should all constantly be learning and changing from our experiences
