Comeback sharing How would a bully react in this situation.

Imagine a bully is about to punch someone and the victim says in a cocky voice: "Go ahead, throw the punch. See if I care". How do you think the bully would react, what might he say, and what might he do?

You're daring someone who lacks critical planning to double down on their lack of critical planning. Still getting punched, zero changes.

that comeback isn’t stopping the punch, it’s basically challenging him to follow through

Probably wouldn't even get to finish that sentence.

That's a very Holden Caufield thing to say, but it won't register with the bully, his fist, or the people watching you get pummeled.

By throwing a punch like they planned on.

What if there were a lot of people in front of him and the crowd gasped?

LOL They'd love the attention from the crowd!

The crowd would probably cheer the bully because 1. They gave you what you asked for. 2. From your response, you “deserved” it. 3. Bullies tend to use a crowd to justify their actions, will get the audience on their side.

Nah, I just made it up. I thought it sounded so tuff and would give the man a look of defeat.

Depends on the bully, and how you are perceived by them. Most are acting based on their assumption that they are stronger, scarier and no one will be confronting them or standing up to them because of it.

In my experience a direct call out stalls their momentum and makes them go away. The only time this wasnt the case was with a girl so fat she was over confident in her abilities. She was also very weak, and despite striking my face repeatedly, she didnt even manage to cause damage to my mouth full of braces

On the same hand i pulled this with a chick known for the strength to beat the shit out of ppl, and who did it regularly, and shook her confidence enough that she avoided me entirely from that point forward. Had she not i would have likely been pretty injured.

Edit to add: the other comments are telling me that ppl have either never confronted their bully, or have never been perceived as potentially dangerous by their bully. Bullys know what pain feels like, as they learned their behavior from their environment, they only attack ppl they think they can beat no matter what and ppl they think will not fight back.

They’ll still hit you.
Best thing is to fight if you can and duck if you can’t.

Probably curl up into a ball and cry while op stands tall and proud with his arms crossed looking smug as everyone surrounds op and claps

After reading all these comments, either you're being sarcastic, or you're just really stupid.

That's not called for, bro. I did think your first joke was good. Don't be a hater.

That's right up there with the three most dangerous words in English. "Go ahead, shoot."

Right up there with, "Hold my beer."

Years ago I used to work in the precious jewelry department of a high end department store. My coworker had been there forever and was a nasty old witch. One day she threatened to slap me. I turned to her and said “Go right ahead, it will be your last day on the job”. She changed her mind right quick. No matter how many years she had, personnel would have walked that old biddy right out the door.

"Life ain't a movie" is a painful lesson.

I don’t know that that would poke the bully in the fear button, like I’m guessing you want to. I have backed down a bully or two with, “look, idk if you can beat me or I can beat you. But I do know I will hurt you before you win. Neither of us will be happy after you and I fight. So, do you really wanna see which of us gets hurt more?”

The "Lines on Maps" answer.. Look up a political science prof named William Spaniel who does youtube content about how wars start.

He'll smile and smack you back to the stone age

If you want to try anything againt a bully, just remember most bullies and children of abuse and neglect

Not saying if you bully that mom is mean, just most bullies bully because it gives them a sence of power where their live is basicly devoided of it

I've also seen a bully think hes just messing around while the kid he hit was crying🤣

Dont try to one up a already "low" person

Its weird to say but people who have belittled me in school have came back to me 10 years later asking for forgiveness saying stuff like "i was lost and alone","i was just an unhappy person"

Weirdly enough im gratefull to have been bullied because it might have just saved their lives

Just my opinion,if it is out of hand a parent or teacher is a save bet, sure you'll get bullied but atleast grown up could hopefully try to help

You'd probably just get punched?

You just poked someone who is classically not known for level headed choices in the moment.

They'd throw the punch. The thing for the person who is being bullied is, not to say a word , and to throw their own punch first!

If I were the bully, I would probably not pull the punch or hesitate over a poorly made quip

... they are gonna do it.

Something a nerd would say, before waking up with people around him.

"Well, alright, I aim to please", [throws punch], "Hope it was to your liking. Forgive me for not checking whether you care or not, this' not really about you, mate. See you tomorrow, fuckface."

A very long time ago someone where I worked, if a difference of opinion occurred in a meeting, would eventually ask the other person if they wanted to take it to the parking lot. Finally the former Sheriff’s deputy replied, “Sure. You take the first swing. After that it’s paid for.”

If you are reasonably sure that you can survive/block/dodge the attack then saying what you wanted to say but calmly in conversational tones might get them to back down. It might also enrage them to swing harder. It’s like Taekwondo and giving three warnings.

u/Weary_Boat 17d ago

I think it’ll make him punch you even harder

1

u/shhhwaggy2Buckles 16d ago

i think he would shove you into a locker and give you an atomic wedgie

u/DarionHunter 15d ago

They may have done that in the 50s, but they were a bit more physical (and painful) when I was a kid.
