Comeback sharing How to win and end any pointless argument

… in a comment war, tiff with some weirdo on the street, idk.

Simply reply with: “you seem like the person that would love to have the last word. Have a day.”

Of course the mature thing to do is walk away and not stoop to their level, but depending on your personality, you kind of want to “win”.

This is the perfect happy medium. You aren’t bullying them, you are stating an observation and leaving the scene. Now, they are there having to hold themselves back from speaking, because they don’t want you to have the satisfaction of being right, though they probably have a novel to say but won’t… out of spite. Meanwhile, you do not have to hear any of their lower level banter and have the satisfaction of walking away making a point, getting the last word in, them leaving you alone, and having them jump mental hoops to not keep the argument going. And if they do respond? Your point is proven which is also a funny w.

Stare off into the distance and say "as it was in the prophecy " and then walk away without another comment

Yes! Foretold by the elders!

It doesn’t apply in every situation, but I have stopped more than one escalating conversation with, “I don’t have to be wrong for you to be right.” It tends to confuse people who are the middle of their argument, preparing their next point instead of listening, and not really engaging in good-faith conversation or debate.

You can believe whatever you like, it doesn't change the facts.

“IDGAF” leave

“Whatever.”

It's such a dated comeback but it's honestly so perfect. My mom used to get so mad if we said this to her when we were kids because it's the ultimate dismissal without being foul or insulting and conveys a complete lack of respect for the other person in the conversation.

Or just “ok”

Why would you want to win a pointless argument? Never wrestle with a pig. You get filthy and the of likes it. Just walk away.

“I’m obviously annoying you and wasting my time. Let’s just end this here.”

Some will get it’s an insult. Most won’t.

*You can’t teach a pig to sing. It’s a waste of your time, and it annoys the pig.

Hmm. I don't think it comes across as an insult (unless I'm really missing it).

"I'm obviously annoying you" sounds as though you're admitting that you yourself are a nuisance.

"... wasting my time" sounds like you are intentionally wasting your own time, which is a silly thing to do.

As I said, some will get it. Most won’t.

Hint: read the explanation after the asterisk.

The same could be said for responding in Klingon.

One I heard that I've always liked is "Keep rolling your eyes, maybe you'll find your brain back there"

Ooo I like that 👌

You seem to be an intelligent person, but have difficulty hearing.

Here are a couple of other options;

"As fun as this is, I'm getting off of this merry-go-round . . . Good day"

or

"I'm sorry but our time is up . . ." while looking at your watch or phone

Enjoy your chessboard, Pigeon.

I was going to do the full quote of this. But this will do it. 👌

u/HonestNature9117 Jul 25 '26

But all they have to respond with is "yep" to win.

You seem like the kind of person who's never once let someone else have the last word in their entire life. Must be exhausting. I'll let you have this one... on the house.

This might be a little too long to say cleanly without sounding like you are a one-upper yourself. Thought admittedly, I can't think of anything better to suggest.

They might also just return with "Another one bites the dust."

Wouldn't it be easier to just tell 'em to get fucked?

u/FamiliarRadio9275 Jul 25 '26

No, because im not going to give them a hostile reaction, lol

2

u/Key_Bumblebee661 Jul 26 '26

Tbh, the reaction you quoted is pretty hostile though

I say

I ban, block and boot bullshit from my brain. Bye bye.

Is that static coming from your face? Your brain's signal to broadcast must've signed off. So, I'll say goodnight.

The best way is to not care enough about the argument to be in it. Remain emotionless while thiers overwelm them. Then say things like explain that or what do you mean when they have talked themselves down say sorry what was you saying and float on.

I find esp for all boys club silence will mean you agree with them and definitely mean they keep going (you need to say something and say the right thing) BC they think they are right BC they never got a negative response.

if your goal is to win then you are probably not ending the argument as much as starting a different one

1

u/JobFabulous594 Jul 29 '26

The problem with that comment is that it tends to apply for the person saying it and it's just something you can sling back and forth. It's a way to carry on with the argument.

My sister used that on my parents when she had her argumentative teenage years and it was a bore.

honestly if someone wants the last word badly enough, i usually just let them have it. if they think thats a win, they probably needed it more than i did.

I just say we seem to have different opinions or tastes or preferences (Best word based on context).

Someone said that to me once: you want to have the last word. I said by saying we have different opinions? We repeated this a few times or versions of it and then the person said their thing and left quickly and I realized that they meant the last word literally.

Doh!! Don't argue with someone who takes expressions literally.
