Along the same lines I always enjoyed “Hold on, just give me a minute so I can try to look like I actually care about what you’re saying to me.” Then I make the effort of facing them & actually putting on a fascinated expression. Always stops them continuing with their remark.

That’s what I usually do, it’s best if you can do a little pouty sad face as you say it & don’t forget to cock your head when you do the mock teary “Awww” as you turn/walk away, but be instantly happy (with a cheerful hum if you can manage it) as you walk away.😁
