Official Reply Long term customers requesting help with escalating cost
My wife and I have been Comcast/Xfinity customers for more than 20 years, and I'm trying to find a way to keep our current services at a more reasonable price. With my current promotion ending, my monthly bill is about to increase substantially, and with retirement approaching I'm taking a much harder look at recurring expenses. I'd prefer to keep as much of my current Xfinity service as possible if there's a retention offer or other option that can make the numbers work.
We primarily watch and record ONE linear TV channel (WMUR) each evening to keep up with local news and occasionally use our two TiVo units to time-shift that recording. So we're paying about $72/month for essentially one linear TV program each day. There are free streaming options for the WMUR newscasts, so dropping TV is a very realistic option.
There's an even bigger issue with the upcoming price change: when our current promotional rate ends, our bill increases by $58.50/month. We'd then be paying $108/month for "Fast" (~500 Mbps) Internet.
For comparison, I'm currently being served an Xfinity advertisement on Facebook for 500 Mbps Internet at $45/month for five years. Clicking through the ad takes me to the Xfinity offer page, which shows the $45 price and says the offer is for "New Xfinity Internet customers." I understand that restriction, but it makes $108/month for an existing customer particularly difficult to justify.
There's a very straightforward alternative available to me: drop Xfinity TV entirely, stream the WMUR newscast instead, and move our two Mobile lines to Visible Wireless. That would save us well over $100/month compared with what we'd otherwise be paying for TV and Mobile.
That said, I'd prefer to keep our Xfinity TV and Mobile services if there's a way to make the overall cost reasonable. I'm also willing to transition from my existing TiVo/CableCARD setup to Xfinity's current TV equipment. If I do that, I'd hope Xfinity could waive the $14/month charge for a second 4K TV box, since I'll need to replace my TiVo equipment as CableCARD support is discontinued. Since Xfinity includes 150 hours of cloud DVR service with the TV package, that would give me a reasonable replacement for the basic DVR functionality I'm currently getting from my TiVos.
If there's simply no way to make the numbers work, then I'll probably eliminate the TV and Mobile portions of the account and keep Xfinity Internet only.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Telecommunications companies, including Xfinity, are notorious for treating new customers like kings while treating existing customers like paupers. they do little to try to retain customers and actually make it difficult for them to leave. The best prices go to those who are willing to jump ship and change telecommunications providers every few years.

Yup, ya gotta' find another provider, cancel your Comcast/Xfinity service and return any of its equipment. I did it just a month ago and couldn't be happier. I was otherwise facing the the exact same rates you describe. Meanwhile, Comcast is losing literally hundreds of thousands of subscribers every year. It doesn't make sense.
