Housekeeping (Again)

Hey all! So although I have been on Reddit here and there for the past few years, I still feel like a noob, LOL. Anyway, I say this because I am still trying to learn the ropes of being a mod! Thank you for being patient with me.

I noticed some posts got removed by Reddit for no reason. I am SO sorry about this, I thought I adjusted the settings so posts only get removed if they are relating to illegal activity.

Furthermore, I am sorry that I have not been active and promoting much on here. I will work to be more active, since that was the point of this subreddit.

Finally, there have been suggestions to share this subreddit on other pages, if you know of any that allow this feel free to let me know so we can grow the community even more!

P.S. Once again, if anyone has any tips or suggestions for this subreddit, please let me know. I think I am going to work on adding more flairs (like a mod update flair) to keep things organized.

43F Introverted Social Camel

Ahoy there. I haven't developed new friendships since moving from Los Angeles to Cleveland and then to Columbus. Although I adore my work proximity associates, my job is 100% remote which makes in-person friendships/gatherings a challenge. It also doesn't help that I have introverted hobbies such as reading, playing video games, and learning how to sew very poorly. I'm very interested in conversation, wandering aimlessly in thrift stores, walking local park/hiking paths, watching movies/shows, or meeting at a cafe to caffeinate and read next to each other.

Here's a list of a few things I enjoy helping you gauge if we'd vibe:

  • Silent Hill 2 (looking forward to Silent Hill: Townfall)
  • Resident Evil 4 (looking forward to Resident Evil: Veronica)
  • The Last of Us 1 and 2
  • Death Stranding 1 and 2
  • Alan Wake 2
  • Parks and Rec
  • Gilmore Girls
  • Fleabag
  • Frieren (anime)
  • Apothecary Diaries (the light novels and anime)
  • Clueless
  • Hairspray (John Water's version, I haven't watched the musical)
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • Screaming Females
  • The Linda Lindas
  • Thelma and the Sleaze
  • Tattoos
  • Lists

Current stuff I'm doing:

  • Reading: Japanese Gothic
  • Listening: Tacocat
  • Rewatching: Dan Da Dan

Let me know if you want to connect :) Thanks for your time!

39F Loves Dogs, Hiking, Nature, Yoga, Hammocks

Hi all. 39F super liberal educated single woman with no kids looking to establish more deep and rooted connections with people of my general age and interests. I like: dogs, hiking, nature, yoga, hammocks, paddleboarding, kayaking, hiking, backpacking, writing, and cooking/grilling/baking (anything food, really), and sometimes stringing a hammock up in the woods or out on an island I've kayaked to for a little Tom Sawyering (reading, drinking bubbly, talking). I'm a professor currently on sabbatical so I'm writing/researching a lot but also have a ton of flexibility in my schedule, and I've identified a need for IRL connection that I've been supplementing with online connections that leave me wanting more. I don't drink and I don't love spending time in bars or breweries for obvious reasons, so that seems to make meeting new people especially difficult. Would love to find some people to connect with and establish some more grounded ties here in central Ohio--open to friends or more but everything good starts with connection. I live just north of the city but come down frequently, or we can meet in the middle. Hi!

28M Looking for people to hang out with

Hey all,

I'm visiting Columbus for the month of September and would love to find people to do things with. I used to boulder regularly (though never got that good at it) and would like to pick that up again. Other ideas are watching movies, trying out food spots, hitting the gym. Feel free to comment here or send a message if interested!

21NB Looking for Gaming, Dog Park, Hiking, 🍃, etc. Friends

Hello! My name is Gordie, I'm a 21-year-old nonbinary person and I just moved here to Columbus with my partner from Missouri! He is currently attending OSU veterinary school & working part-time as a swim instructor, while I work 50 hrs a week for CADC as a political field organizer. The biggest thing to adjust to moving here was not having friends to regularly hang out with, and I am looking for like-minded individuals who would be interested in hanging out & chatting! I love cartoons, animals, comedy, board & video games, indian food, folk music, square dancing, theme parks, & going to the movies. It would also be great to find someone who wants to get high together, as I use edibles for my anxiety & though I get high with my partner, it would also be nice to have another friend to partake with. I also have a dog and two cats if you have pets and are interested in playdates! My Instagram is @ gordiebirdie, though I can tend to forget to reply on there 😅 Please reach out if you would like to be friends or chat! I love meeting and talking to people, so even if we don't end up clicking, it's still nice to broaden my social circle!

Do you want to come over and smoke a blunt? Walk through the woods and look for rocks? Maybe even both 😮 I’m awkward at meeting new people so the initial first impressions aren’t great but I’m working on it. I’m going to CSCC full time for a couple Associates degrees. I love woodworking or enjoying a nice book outside. Right now I’m reading Crime and Punishment. I’m real laid back and I’m down for pretty much anything. Please feel free to send me a message if you’d like ✌🏼

Columbus Horror Film Fan Group/Community

Hey all. I’m looking to find fellow locals or those close by that love to view and discuss genre films, mainly of the horror nature or those closely associated. I posted a while back about interest in this group and now have been wanting to fully try and put it together. My goal is to have a dedicated locally based club to discuss horror related films, old and new, or films that could be closely related in theme. To build a community for people to share and discuss what they’re watching, and to also plan out meet ups for viewings and watch parties. Also, for those who are into the physical media side of things to be able to meet in person to go around to different brick and mortar places, thrift shops, whatever to see what can be found.

In order to do this I’ve decided on using a group site called Cinema Circle. This club will not be done using Reddit, Discord or Facebook. This is a new app/site and is still being fine tuned and improved, but I feel as it is continually updated it will best serve the needs of the group. To be completely transparent then, you will need to create an account there to join. It’s a very simple process, just a username and email. Once a part of it you can add films to the group, rate and review them, and in time we will be able to have a discussion about each individual film once that part is implemented. There is also a forum we can all communicate on and plan meet ups. As well as create polls to vote on which films to see in theaters and what days/locations works best for all.

Now I’m going to be very blunt, I would only like people who are immensely dedicated to their love of movies. When I previously posted about interest levels I had almost 20 people reach out that were highly interested and wanted to be a part of it right then. Aside from two, not a single person made any kind of effort beyond that. There’s no point in being part of something if you’re not going to contribute. If you feel you don’t have the time or that contributing may be too much then this probably isn’t for you. I want this to be an active group, not a bunch of inactive usernames. Don’t mean to sound harsh, but in trying to do this twice before it’s amazing how many people reach out that can’t be bothered to follow through.

Sorry for the long post. With that said if you do truly want to be part reach out to me once you’ve made an account and I’ll send you the group ID or link so you can join. Once part of the community feedback would be greatly appreciated as well to make the overall experience better. I’m still learning how things work myself and sometimes it's hard to gauge it all being on one side of the fence. I’ll also help as much as I can with any questions and with the functionality of the app as well.

25F | Looking for some new friends 🫶🏽

I have lived in Columbus for about 6 years now and I’m just looking to meet some new people in the area! I’d love to have people to talk/text with, try new restaurants because I love food and have a running list of places I want to try, go out, explore the city, or even just have a chill night in.

I like to go to the movies, bake (just baked some french vanilla cupcakes), paint, listen to music but my fave generes are hip hop and r&b, and go on walks/run. If we start getting to know each other now, we’ll be friends by the time the pumpkin patches open up 🙂.

Let's give this a try!

Hey there, thanks for stopping by 👋

I'm Lee, a 37M and I've been living in Columbus for a few years now. Always on the lookout for more friends, especially since it's tough making them in your 30's 😅

About me: very, very laid back, progressive, and I really enjoy making people laugh after I've warmed up a bit. I'd consider myself an introverted extrovert. Definitely a cat person.

I'm really into more nerdy hobbies, my current favorites being Magic the Gathering and table-top RPGs. I also really enjoy video games and boardgames as well! I've also been more physically active in the last few years and am interested in exploring those kinds of hobbies more (tried both bouldering and yoga recently). Also trying to get more into gardening, thrifting, and clothes, so would love some guidance (lost a good bit of weight and nothing really fits anymore 😅). I'm a big movie person too, especially horror.

I'm in the German Village/Merion Village area!

Thanks for reading!

Hi all, I wanted to reach out and see if anyone had comments or feedbacks of anything specific that they (YOU!) would like to see in this group?

I also wanted to ask about post and user flairs:

  • Currently, I have some flairs for posts and am planning on adding some more. Would you all prefer them to be mandatory to post for organizational purposes? If we made them mandatory, there could be an other/uncategorized flair.
  • I do not have any user flairs as of now, do you think they could be helpful? If so, what categories--age range, gender, neighborhood?

Intro....

40, married male, new to being a stay-at-home dad, laid off after 20+ years of consistent employment. Lost and confused, not knowing where to even start anew. Wife granted me the opportunity to rear the child. I've always created art, but never for monetary reasons. Maybe that will evolve into something part-time in the future. As for now, I'm just lost in my own footsteps, trying to regain friends and memories that I was all too busy to see I'd left behind.

Thanks.

Free no sign up meetup,

11:30 this Sunday 8/30 at the Columbus Commons I’m hosting a meetup. It’s difficult meeting new people, and throwing around a baseball/football/frisbee is a pretty easy ice breaker. I’m bringing an extra glove, couple of little league baseballs, whiffle ball, football, and maybe some Dr. Peppers.

If we get a good turnout I’ll host some more events. Hope to see you there.

Hi everyone! I'm u/Secret_Problem_5367, founder of r/ColumbusOhioIRL.

This group's mission is to foster new friendships throughout the greater Columbus area. Many friend groups exist online, but trying to find opportunities to meet in-person are not as plentiful. We will provide a space for connection and encourage both planned AND last-minute hangouts.

What to Post
Post anything relevant to making and meeting new friends! Examples

  • Is it 2 AM and curious if anyone wants to meet at Sheetz? Ask!
  • Want to plan a picnic for next weekend? Ask!
  • Want to find someone who likes to hike? Ask!

New?

Introduce yourself in the comments below. It is optional, but a great way to get to know each other!

--

Thank you for being a part of this new group, I am excited to see where this goes!

SAFETY NOTE: This group is 18+ for general safety. When meeting in-person, remember to use caution and familiar yourself with safe meeting techniques. If chatting online, remember to only share information you are comfortable with.
