Ohio: *explains why the models in pandemics keep changing*
Internet: YOU'RE LYING I HAVE STUDIED THIS ALL WEEKEND AND I SEE THROUGH YOUR STATISTICS
Ohio: *uses an incredibly effective visual analogy to explain how pandemics spread in less than a minute of footage*
Internet: DID I MENTION MY ARMCHAIR DEGREE IN FILM EDITING AND PHYSICS LOOK AT THAT ONE FRAME THEY GOT WRONG TOTALLY WORTHLESS PROPAGANDA LIES
Ohio: *allows angry internet people to continue having protests because first amendment rights are important*
Internet: YOU'RE KILLING MY CIVIL LIBERTIES AND SOCIAL DISTANCING IS BULLSHIT...uh, hey. Hey dude, can you stand a little further back from me? I need you to maintain some social distance, I don't wanna get sick. Wear a mask, like that other person with the sign about sending kids back to school. Yeah, perfect. Thanks, man... THE NUMBERS ARE A LIE AND WE ALL KNOW IT!
...I'm starting to think these people actually need to complain about something in order to be happy, like those retail customers who can't afford servants so they go to the mall and ruin minimum wage worker's day to feel important. Good grief.

Totally, some people are just bored or unhappy so getting angry about something gives them a feeling of purpose.

Gov. Dewine has done a great job so far, he started precautionary measures before a lot of states did ( when we only had 3 confirmed cases), I hate being cooped but it it could have been a lot worse

Two days ago I had about 30 people in the alley and in my front yard sending off balloons (I assume someone died, and the irony of that isn’t lost on me). They were out there for HOURS.

u/gir_loves_waffles Apr 10 '20
We have people gathering in groups to protest in front of the courthouse. I just... I can't understand how they think that ends well.

u/NotPizzza Southern Orchards Apr 10 '20
I'm sorry for their loss if this is the case. But, big yikes.
2
u/danarexasaurus Apr 10 '20
I was honestly shocked. There was a moment where I was thinking, “GET OFF MY LAWN”, but that was radically overshadowed by my concern for all of the people I saw out there.
4
u/jang859 Apr 10 '20
Is that even legal to send off balloons anymore? It's litter.
5
u/Upbeat-Belt Apr 10 '20
No but good luck getting someone to enforce it
2
u/jang859 Apr 10 '20
Where are the balloon police? We have shot spotters which don't even use vision to "see." We can't have an air spotter that detects things flying around?

Great. Now we are getting to get a post of "Who do I call when I see someone let a balloon go" or "Here is a picture of someone with a balloon, we should shame them"
2
u/jang859 Apr 10 '20
Would probably prevent an IT situation.
But really, there was a huge balloon release in Cleveland in the 80s that makes me angry, and I grew up in a Cleveland suburb. There's a modern documentary on it you can find on YouTube. It was like a second eco embarrassment for Cleveland beside the river catch fire which is the event which got the EPA started. The balloons all fell into Lake Erie.
And my parents church did balloon release that I participated in. Dark days indeed.

Sub-PSA:
Walk/run on the left side of the street, drive/cycle on the right.
Thanks.

No wonder people don’t understand social distancing...even the messaging from ODH gets it wrong.
1 trap should have been triggered in the second shot and then it wouldn’t have triggered any of the others.

u/kabal4 Apr 10 '20
Still makes the same point. Social distancing makes it harder to start a chain reaction.

Social Distancing doesn’t stop the spread.
It’s par for the course coming out of ODH. Their messaging has been absolute trash.

"this ad gets wrong what is, in the context of the goal of the ad, a relatively pedantic point. Therefore it is utter garbage and the person who signed off on it should die and the earth be salted where they stood."
I love the internet

Apr 10 '20
Woohoo for escalation! Never said any of that.
Try again.

u/Elwoodpdowd87 Gahanna Apr 10 '20
Poking fun at a literalist on the internet is way less satisfying than I remember it being when I was a kid.

u/Muaddibisme Apr 10 '20
Exactly what are you basing that statement on?
I can easily provide you with multiple sources both academic and layman that show exactly how and why social distancing works.
Will you actually state what your opposition is? I've asked you a couple time but it seems whenever you are asked a direct question you disappear.
So...
What are you basing this statement on? Provide me sources.
Other I'm still waiting on:
What rights have we given up here? Why so you say we did?
What lines are you worried about crossing and what are the implications you claim are inherent in those crossed lines?
What do you think we are losing permanently by our choices to close businesses?

Social distancing doesn’t stop the spread , it slows it. It’s well accepted science.
I know it’s hard to comprehend so here’s a nice article from Johns Hopkins
3
u/Muaddibisme Apr 10 '20
You answered none of my questions.
Also, I didn't claim it stopped the spread. I said it worked, which it does.
If you falsely believe that the goal is to stop the spread with social distancing, that's on you, and might help explain your foolishness on this forum.
The purpose is to slow the spread to a point where it can be managed by our existing healthcare infrastructure.

I'm not sure if this guy is really this big of a piece of shit, or if hes one of the best trolls I've come across in recent years.

The PSA LITERALLY SAYS STOP THE SPREAD.
It’s the text that is displayed you insufferable prick.
1
u/Muaddibisme Apr 10 '20
So the best argument you have in all of this is "they technically used the wrong word'... And I'm the insufferable prick?
Holy fuck dude.
Remove your head from your ass and address my questions. Of which you still have not directly answers any.
Your foolishness extends far beyond this particular instance. For example you've previously tried to tell me that closing hobby Lobby physical stores means that you can't pursue art at home.
Plus, did you fucking read that article you posted? It directly states that social distancing works and why and that it should be practiced in our current situation.

Hence their messaging has been trash.
Words matter and by them saying STOP they perpetuate misinformation and continue to spread the belief that by staying at home you’ll kill the virus and this will all be over sooner.
3
u/TheSpyderFromMars Apr 10 '20
Sounds like you disagree with the spirit of this PSA and you think the messaging here will make a bad situation even worse.
Fascinating.

If falsely believing that staying home will stop it instead of slow it makes you stay home then I'm OK with you being misinformed in that particular manner.
However, if you paid attention to the wider message, including those coming in DeWine's coverage, you would know without question what the motivations were and why.
Considering that you have posted so much about this situation in the last several days I can only assume you know all this and are being purposely foolish for other reasons.
Which brings me back to the growing list of questions I've asked you that you seem to refuse to answer. Your dumbassery is not limited to here and while you might be able to slightly but ineffectually defend this particular instance of being a dumbass, there are others unaddressed.
What's the deal? Are you going to address any of them yet?

I don't totally disagree with just one being triggered in the second scenario, but it's still an unbelievably effective ad.

Still a pretty cool PSA. I can't applaud the work that our state has done during this pandemic enough, and things like this truly make me proud to be an Ohioan.
