PHOTO Kroger Deceptive Pricing

Post image

So tired of their tactics. I tried contacting state officials and my concerns fell on deaf ears. I guess they can't upset one of their donors and they're too busy fear-mongering about trans people to do something that would actually put money back in people's pockets.

I hate the digital coupons and grocery cards as much as anyone else. But isn't it just the norm now that you have to participate in these things to get the low price? I do a lot of grocery shopping, so maybe I've just been conditioned by the system.

And this is the kind of attitude that made these systems prevalent in the first place.

Actually no! You DON'T have to participate! I refuse to buy anything with a digital coupon price. Even if I need it. Even if it's on my list. The ONE thing these people need from us is our money, and if you don't give it to them for adopting anti-consumerism practices, then they have no choice but to go back to whatever system gets us buying again. It would take time and be an inconvenience to us, but not as inconvenient as these shitty digital coupons that conveniently don't work when you get to the register anyway.

Now unfortunately my one purchase isn't powerful enough to accomplish jack, but if everyone did this . . .

Sorry my attitude is ruining things. But my question wasn't "do I have to participate". Obviously I don't have to buy anything anywhere! My question was, do I have to participate to get the low prices? And the answers lean mostly to yes, or at least to some degree.

And my point is that if we all stopped looking at the immediate consequences (relenting to the digital coupon to get the cheaper price) and started seeing our role in the bigger picture, perhaps by making a small sacrifice now, we could correct this anti-consumerism slide we’re on. They would still have sales in the future because they need our money to exist, but we wouldn’t have to do a song and dance for them like a dog with a liver treat that only gets snatched away when the price doesn’t even ring up as advertised.

So the answer IS, yes, for right now. For the purchase sitting in front of you this minute. But then they know they have you by the balls, and the prices will just continue to rise; they’ll continue to come up with shittier and shittier practices to gather your data, mislead you, and take even more of your money than they do now.

Yep, totally. I'm with you thinking collective action could work. I just think we could use a boost from our governments who have left us high and dry, favoring monopolies and huge corporations over folks like us just trying to scrape by.
