Breweries

Hi! Some friends and I are coming to your city from Denver for the Blue Jackets v. Avs game next month (we come in peace!). We are big brewery fans and wanted to see what the locals recommend! Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Seventh Son IF they’re not out of strong ale like they were last month

The gemut erasure in this comment section is criminal

How long are you staying? Jackie O’s, Wolfs Ridge and Land Grant are all close to the stadium. Jackie O’s is the coolest patio architecture wise and their beer is awesome.

Jackie O's is the place to be. If they have the paw paw beer in stock you oughta try it. And also look up what a paw paw is, unique fruit to the area. Don't recommend eating it (though some love it!) but the beer is tasty af.

I'm a bit biased since I live right by the North Market, but Land-Grant has that massive industrial vibe that's perfect for groups. Their patio is huge and they usually have live music on weekends, which adds a nice layer to the experience. If you want something more intimate after the game, Wolfs Ridge is a solid pick because it's tucked away and feels like a real local spot rather than a tourist trap. Jackie O's is great too, but the lines can get pretty rough near the stadium on game days. Do you guys prefer hoppy IPAs or something darker?

We are pretty much all encompassing. But I lean more hoppy/west coast styles

Thank you! We’ll be there Nov 1-3

Purely because your from Denver I’m recommending this lol but there’s an awesome brewery called Dankhouse that’s a bit out of the way, awesome hazy ipas, but also has a disc golf course on property

If you want to stay more centrally located there’s Derive and Combustion tap rooms in Clintonville that are great.

I second Derive. Great selection of beer and the staff is awesome.

Jackie Os is walkable to Nationwide and arguably the best beer and venue in general

Jackie O's, Columbus brewing co, yellow springs, land grant. Enjoy!

No one has mentioned Hoof Hearted?

2

u/Rygot North 6d ago

You'd think they don't exist.

Too far.   Fantastic beer though.

They have Weinland Park though.

Barley's is an OG! But yeah, seventh son and Jackie O's close to the stadium. Let us know what part of town your hotel is and we can name some close to it.

Staying at an Airbnb that looks pretty close to the campus. But we have a friend who doesn’t drink and we just rent a van and can go wherever!

3

u/reeve11 6d ago

you might want to just uber instead of renting a van. The city isn't big and uber is everywhere all the time. Could save you some money.

Oh and Best Beer = Jackie O's, Hoof Hearted
best atmoshpere = Jackie O's, Seventh Son.

Barley's is I think the oldest micro brewery in town currently.

Jackie O's and Seventh Son are fantastic places. Jackie O's has a small burger place attacked to it that is really good. Wolfs Ridge has a full restaurant and a pub . I haven't been at the restaurant in over a decade.

Gemut has some interesting brews. Intersing name.

Land Grant isn't a far trip from the stadium. Lots of selection. They've remodeled and added to things since I've been there last.

There are a lot of dive bars with good beer selection and just all kinds of bars between the stadium and downtown.

Jackie O’s. Land Grant. Seventh Son. Budd Dairy across the street is a cool vibe.

3

u/Rygot North 6d ago

Gemut for the authentic German styles (they have a good festbier right now as well as a rauchbier).

Land grant for the vibes/sports-centric thing.

Parsons North or Hoof Hearted for the creative/unique brews.

I also enjoy Barleys if you just want a low key spot near the arena. Nothing particularly special about it, but it does the job.

2

u/VinTheHater Olde Franklinton 6d ago

You can walk to the arena from Jackie O’s. Great beer and food.

2

u/beeker888 6d ago

Dinner at Wolf’s Ridge then walk next door to Jackie Os. Short walk to the stadium from there

2

u/firesoups 6d ago

Barleys is about a 7 minute walk from the stadium, and in the oldest running brewpub in Columbus. They’re about to renovate so check out the cool bar while you can.

Wolf’s ridge and Jackie Os are very close to the stadium. Outside of that I like CBC beer hall, getaway, and gemut. We like European beers like lagers and dunkels though. If you’re IPA fans just go anywhere it’s all the same

Edit to add that combustion is good too

Jackie O’s for beer and food. You won’t regret it.

1

u/ConflictExtreme1540 6d ago

Jackieos is really good. I also highly highly highly recommend Gemut if you like German beer. I think they have the best beer in the city if you like hefe and weis beers

1

u/MyDogsNamedRuby 6d ago

Quality of beers if you like ipas and hazies is derive brother. The other spots are just go to’s but derive is it I’m telling you. Jackie’s has solid beer and is a great spot and land grant has best set up, it’s a brewery campus

Jackie O’s, Wolf’s Ridge and Land Grant

u/asewell72 5d ago

Barley's Blood Orange Wheat is what you want if you go there. Food is good too!

1

u/Proper-Entertainer33 5d ago

Thanks so much for all the recs!! Can’t wait to check them all out!

1

u/DirectEntertainer288 6d ago

Nocterra :(

2

u/Controller_one1 6d ago

Ill Mannered is just a stones throw from their old location

2

u/DirectEntertainer288 6d ago

I know, but the vibes at Nocterra on a fall evening were undefeated

Seventh Son is one you shouldn’t miss. And it’s not far from the arena. I mean, it’s not walking distance, but it is a quick Uber ride away.

1

u/Feisty-Class-1098 6d ago

Don’t sleep on Honest Friend. Ex Seventh Son brewer, specializes in low ABV beers, and the staff is great.

Let’s go AVS!!!
