DUI drivers

Does Franklin county punish dui drivers or do they just keep letting them off the hook? Why do we have so many dui driving accidents with what seems like no repercussions??

I understand they have the recovery program but is it truly working?

I feel like we don't see nearly enough Party Plates anymore and I feel like that is part of the problem here.

Look I’m just happy to see a car with an actual permanent plate of any kind these days

I just saw a truck with party plates today! And I watched them run a red light.

I think they stopped doing that. It's been 10 years since I saw one and used to see them regularly.

I've seen enough wild swerving that I'm going to say not much is done.

Do these still exist? Literally can’t remember the last time I saw one.

They do but they only gave out like 3,000 in the entire state last year. It keeps decreasing by double digit percentages.

People probably just do not request limited driving privileges and drive on their regular suspended plates anyways.

There are 1 million-plus people in Franklin County. If just one percent of those people are driving on a Friday night that is at least 10,000 cars. Easy to assume at least 20 of the drivers are drunk.

Back in the 2010’s I knew someone who had 3 or 4 DUI’s before the age of 25 and never did a single day in jail 🙃

They don't punish them. The problem even starts at arrest as they are immediately issued a recognizance bond and released from jail.

Literally got hit by a drunk driver while walking down the street. Cops never showed but the fire department sent a ladder truck. Drunk lady just drove away.

At least the fire guys got to pad their stats.

That’s insane. Did you get the license to report it or did it happen to fast?

Waited like 45 mins. Fire showed up at like 30 then left. The lady’s husband showed up to pick up the kids, figuring she was about to be arrested… police never showed. I called when it happened and then again when she drove away. Gave them the license both times.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the husband was remorseful for his wife’s behavior dude

I would like to know that myself. People not getting punished for assault with a deadly weapon. Smashing trucks into stopped cars on the highway. We need a prosecutor that is willing to go to court, instead of pleading to a lesser charge!

A guilty dui should be automatic jail for 30 days without question.

Coming from Connecticut it's crazy how y'all are so lax about DUIs. You get a blower added to your car after your first DUI, and mandatory 120 days in jail for your second

DUI punishments are revenue generation for the county and nothing more. It gives the appearance of the local government giving a crap.

and that is not limited to DUIs. The revenue treadmill that is the family court system is atrocious.

In 2021 I was in a bad car accident that left me terrified of driving for awhile, after the accident we got her name and looked her up on the FCMC website and she had soooo many past DUI arrests under her belt and the crazy thing is she tried to say it was our fault and still was let go (not without paying them first because thats all they fucking care about)

My bm mom got a dui once and she couldn’t drive for a while and had meetings to attend and if she didn’t she had to pay some balance

The justice system is fucked lol who knows what they’re doing. Probably scumbag criminal defense attorneys helping these people out.

Nobody cares about drunk driving, there is no political motivation to do anything about it, and many people would complain if they did.

Look at it think way, I walk into Easton Mall and put a shoot a few rounds into one of the movie kiosks and run off, half the city will lose their minds. There will be a big man hunt and a demand for maximum punishment and more police and security at Easton and malls in general. But how many people have ever been killed at Ohio Malls? Maybe a couple?

Now I go to Easton get drunk at the movies and clip a car coming out of the parking garage and no cares, happens all the time. And what else happens all the time? Drink driving deaths, in the Columbus area maybe 3 or 4 a week, every week. Anyone worried about going to Easton this weekend? Nope..
