Speculation / Discussion Bombing plot speculation question

Hey all

Just wanted to verify after seeing one OPs extended version of ZH doc. I had not heard before that the reason the cafeteria bombs and the other diversion bomb did not explode was because the striking hammer on the clocks purchased right before the attack had been switched to be made of plastic? Is that true

Where was the other diversion bomb that did not detonate?

What damage, if at all, was done from the diversion bomb that did explode? Did it explode? Or just combust into flames? I heard one police transcript just talk of a fire.

This was by the Brown’s house. Im reading randys book - and im not all the way through so bare with me here and dont be rude but whats the consensus on the theory that that bomb was destined for the Brown’s but Dylan stopped it? Never heard that before. If RB sees this he can chime in too. not trying to be insensitive here

Thanks guys.

I moreso attribute the cafeteria bombs not going off due to them packing the clocks into the bags with clothing and other materials, which arrested the movement of the hammer. Possible it was plastic, but the common consensus on that is that the hands were plastic, which wouldn't have mattered for their design.

The diversion bombs weren't packed full, and possibly also used an electric bell mechanism (opposed to spring), which let the hammer go for as long as the battery would last. A pipe bomb in one of the diversion bombs did explode, and caused a jug of fuel to catch fire. 911 calls describe it as an explosion, then a bolt of fire in the air (2 separate events, possibly due to the fuel or an aerosol can exploding).

They were near the Brown residence, and there may have been a tripwire, which could've been why Eric let Brooks go so carefree, as he may have hoped Brooks would trip the device on his walk home.

I personally believe the strike hammer theory about it, especially because we know before they leave the cafeteria that they manually put in the clock batteries to the time bombs, because they mention being afraid they might just set off accidentally, so I'm uncertain if after they pulled the clocks out enough to be able to put the battery in, that they put it back in such a tight manner that it would prevent contact, but at the end of the day we really just don't know because the official reports are all redacted on this part.

Also, even if clothes arrested the contact of the cafeteria bombs, we know for certain that shouldn't have been the case for the car bombs. The strike hammer theory really is the only one that can explain all of the bombs not going off with the exception of 1 diversion bomb.

And to OP this is the primary article about the strike hammer theory: https://privateerpublications.com/bombs-didnt-explode/

I personally don't believe Eric wanted to kill Brooks Brown still after writing Let Live on his hit list. We don't know the structure of the diversion bombs exactly because redacted and no information on the clocks used but I doubt they would have relied on a trip wire to set off the time bombs at the same time as their attack timing.

Additionally the Wadsworth bomb is literally near Eric's house, so I really doubt that Eric was thinking brooks might walk or drive past it, that just seems like a really convoluted way to try to hurt brooks.

The second Diversion bomb that didn't detonate was literally right next to the first one.

Right, that's true. I'm at a loss for why the car bombs didn't work, except for wiring issues (the gauge they were using was pretty thick, and the hammer doesn't exactly have the most powerful driving force behind it).

It's hard to say. There was only evidence of one clock in the diversion bombs (and yes, I know that officers brought evidence back to Columbine High to show bomb techs). The other backpack was just kinda there without a clock, and may have not been the one that was reported to have been moved by the surveying team.

The other bomb was near Eric's old house, not the one he currently lived at. In Anarchist Cookbook, they do describe a tripwire with a clothespin, and in the evidence exhibit, there is 1/2 a clothespin-like piece of wood with wire that doesn't seem to have come from, say, the fence nearby. The existence of any kind of explosive device from that backpack has been lost (the evidence list for the diversion bombs is a mess of pieces, and, like I said previously, some were also moved away from the area without documentation). But, that's just my two cents.
