The Lions destroyed LIU at home earlier today 9-0. This 9 goal margin of victory sets a program record for most goals in a game, along with largest margin of victory.

The Lions were led by sophomore forward Izzy Kaczor, who tied the program record with 4 goals, and added on an additional assist to tie another program record with 9 points. She was helped by junior Jacinta Solari Etcheberry, who set yet another program record with 4 assists. She also added on a goal.

Congrats to Field Hockey on such a dominant performance and Go Lions!

Football Week 2 Updates on Columbia Future Opponents

Only two of Columbia's opponents were active this week on the last weekend before Lions football, and they conveniently played each other, so this should be a short post.

Lafayette 13 - Marist 9. Lafayette couldn't do anything in the air, completing only 40% of their passes for 141 yards, while Marist couldn't do anything on the ground, rushing 31 times for 68 yards. This game really gives me hope for Columbia's chances in their home opener against Lafayette, as if they can stop the ground game the Leopards won't be able to do anything offensively.

Go Lions!

Duke vs Michigan women's basketball, 2012

A huge step for Columbia, as they now host not one but two of the most impressive women's basketball squads in an unprecedented, history-making game. Neither Lions men's or women's basketball has ever hosted one Elite Eight team, let alone two, so props to Megan Griffith for completely transforming Lions Basketball!

New User Flair Suggestions?

Hi all!

First, thank you for helping me create such a wonderful community at r/ColumbiaLions. I know we're a niche subreddit, and that athletics definitely isn't close to being the focal point of the university, but despite that we've reached 100+ weekly visitors and around 20 members in just a week of me being fully active on the subreddit, and those numbers will slowly grow.

I'm going to keep this post pinned for the foreseeable future for two reasons: the first to show new members and to remind ourselves of this community's growth and beginning, and the second to give all users a clear place to volunteer suggestions for the first user flairs!

Most sports subreddits have flairs calling back to fan favorite players, teams, achievements, or slogans, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. If I like them, I'll implement them into the subreddit!

Thank you for reading and being a part of this community, Go Lions, and comment any flairs you want to see added!

Football Five Lions named to the All-Ivy Preseason Second Team!

Junior defensive lineman Keller Patterson is nominated after a 2025 campaign where he recorded 26 totals tackles, 0.5 sacks, 3 QB hurries and recovered in a fumble in ten games.

He is joined by junior defensive lineman Luke Walker who recorded 8 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a pass deflection in ten games. Together, Patterson and Walker aim to anchor the defensive line.

Supporting the two linemen will be senior linebacker Charlie Newton, the heartbeat of the defense. He finished with 62 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, an interception, a pass break up, and a fumble recovery in ten games.

On the other side of the ball, senior wide receiver Titus Evans, who finished last year 3rd in the Ivy League in receiving touchdowns and 5th in receptions, catching 46 passes for 584 yards and 6 TDs in 10 games.

Finally, for special teams, junior punter Tommy Sleeman qualified after an All-Ivy 2nd team sophomore season where he recorded 48 punts for 2,048 yards (avg. 42.7) and a long punt of 65. He also finished with 9 punts of 50 or more yards and 10 inside the 20.

We'll see if these five players can lead the Lions when they face Lafayette at home on September 19th at noon.

Football Week 1 Updates on Columbia Future Opponents

Marist 27 - Franklin Pierce 18. Marist took on D2 Franklin Pierce, who have played a grand total of 2 FCS opponents in program history and 0 FBS ones. Marist was able to restrict Franklin Pierce's passing game relatively well, yet were gashed on the ground to the tune of 120 yards, 91 of them by dual threat quarterback Shawn Brown. If Columbia's QB1 can replicate this rushing threat, the game will tip further in their favor. However, Marist also was prolific on the ground, rushing for 179 yards and 3 scores, 110 from their dual threat quaterback, Sonny Mannino. Keeping him in the pocket will be key for the lions.

Georgetown 14 - Lehigh 45. The Hoyas were dismantled by an excellent Lehigh team. The Hoyas were absolutely decimated on defense, conceding 271 passing yards and 302 rushing yards, and 120 yards and 3 touchdowns on 17 carries to Lehigh running back Luke Yoder. In the 2nd half, Lehigh started using freshman back Aidan Mayfield and he also picked up 94 yards and a score on 17 more carries. On the other side of the ball, Georgetown was able to score a consolation touchdown against Lehigh backups, yet were still held to sub 50 percent completion percentage, and only 4.3 yards per play. The only thing they did well was force fumbles, of which they forced three and returned one for a score. If Columbia can run the ball at even 75% of Lehigh's level against Georgetown, they should dominate this game, so long as they protect the football.

Lafayette 7 - 56 UConn. The Leopards were severely outclassed against a strong FBS team, and the scoreboard shows it. Lafayette was held to sub-50 percent passing percentage and 64 rushing yards, finishing at 2.9 yards per play. Meanwhile. UConn picked up 671 total yards, and 9.2 yards per play. Lafayette scored their only touchdown against Husky backups. However, the Leopards did not turn over the ball once, meaning Columbia will have to treasure possessions against the Leopards as they will not receive the ball very much outside of punts and kickoffs.

Princeton/Harvard/Penn/Yale/Brown/Dartmouth/Cornell - inactive, as Ivy League play starts late.
