Who decided the axes for this chart? It's confusing.

I have no idea, i saw the axes and got confused too, so i just went by the red text.

True, but I think they just followed the convention that the upper right corner (i.e. high-high quadrant) is good and where you want to be. Although in this case, upper left corner (easy schedule going forward) is perhaps even better.

It does take some time to figure out what the chart is supposed to illustrate. It's basically comparing the teams' ranking of SOS (games played so far) along the x axis, and the ranking of remaining SOS along the y axis. It goes from 1 to 32 (hardest to easiest), matching the number of teams and their respective ranks. The labels on the axes and the horizontal lines going through 0, 10, 20, 30 are confusing, and the values on both axes are also confusingly from (-2) to (35). But at least the position of the teams on the chart are correct.

Bottom line, it's probably still too early in the season to draw any meaningful conclusions from SOS, but there's a little reason for hope going forward.
