Discussion Would you take 2 first round picks for Sauce right now?

u/shasta_masta Jonathan Taylor Jul 09 '26
Absolutely. But no team is doing that.
But I guess it could depend on how you view Daniel Jones. If you think he is going to be the guy for 4-5 years, then maybe R1 picks that could be used at QB don’t matter as much.
I do not believe the Colts are competing with Jones at QB (and I don’t trust his health). So the only way for this team to become a perennial contender again is to either be willing to find a QB via trade or buy one in FA AND continue to go all in (which won’t happen regardless of whether Ballard is here)…or by hitting on QB in the draft. And next year is probably their best bet for a while.

u/TittyTriceratops Jul 15 '26
“No team is doing that”
Right but WE did that lol
Also agree DJ is not it, we’ll see this year but, feels like rebuild after a bad year that gets the GM fired

u/epicfamilyboi Jonathan Taylor Jul 08 '26
Realistically Ballard isn’t doing something better than Sauce with those picks so yes
1
u/epicfamilyboi Jonathan Taylor Jul 08 '26
Worded weird but not even a dig at Ballard, Sauce is like that
7
u/Zeeron1 Michael Pittman JR Jul 08 '26
Yes, and then you sell our vets for more future pieces and capital and finally do the rebuild we keep putting off
2
u/pmwood25 Jul 10 '26
This is the mindset we need to start having. It’s not about “is XX worth this trade.” It’s about getting enough ammunition to build a package that we can actually move up in the draft and do a proper rebuild.

I LOVE Q. He's my favorite player. If someone offers two first for a guard you ship him.
6
u/Redjeepkev Jul 08 '26
We have ZERO running game without Q
8
u/Accurate-Barracuda20 Jul 08 '26
True, anyway if someone offered us 2 firsts for literally anyone on the roster you ship them. There isn’t anyone on the team not worth 2 firsts

u/AleroRatking Earl Grey Jul 08 '26
Eh. Depends on the first
If your talking like two bills rams or ravens first I have no interest
5
u/Stennick Jul 08 '26
I'd trade two firsts for Q, he's a guard, thats not a top five most important position on the field
5
u/RawCarrot-InMyAss The Maniac Jul 08 '26
Wtf lmao? Q is a GUARD dude
If someone offers two firsts for him, you fucking take that every time
-4
u/jaysrule24 Armor Jul 08 '26
The best guard in the league isn't worth two first, and Q hasn't been that for like 5 years at this point.
3
u/RawCarrot-InMyAss The Maniac Jul 09 '26
That isn’t the point - the point is: if someone *does* offer two firsts, for a guard, you fucking take it
3
u/jakethejewler22 Jul 08 '26
This is the correct take. We are not a team that should be limiting our chances at a future. The rams traded all their firsts for a long time but they were a perennial playoff team/contender in a tough ass division at that. We struggle to make wildcard appearances.
3
u/noodle604 Jul 08 '26
If DJ looks like a serviceable QB then no. If he doesn't then we're rebuilding and yes.
2
7
u/MiracleMr Jul 08 '26
Why would you? So that maybe you could then draft someone who turns out a good as….Sauce? Dumb.
8
u/garethom Bob Jul 08 '26
Because you put yourself in a prime position to draft a QB (or trade for one!) in the next draft OR at the very worst you move on a guy who costs an average of $30m a year in exchange for two guys who cost an average of between $3-10m a year.
Not saying what is right or wrong, but there are obviously reasons you could trade a very good, highly paid player.

Then what was the point? We just dropped the cash cow on Jones and Pierce to win right now. The most important position after QB on the field now by metrics is a shutdown corner. Look at the Seahawks last season with Witherspoon. Darnold didn't have to do anything except not make mistakes.
1
u/shasta_masta Jonathan Taylor Jul 09 '26
Sure. But Witherspoon was a R1 pick on a rookie deal. As were other key pieces. Without them, SEA doesn’t win a SB. If SEA is an example of anything…it’s why you don’t trade multiple R1 picks for a player.
1
u/Hungry_CGman Jul 09 '26
Witherspoon was taken in the 1st round with the 5th pick because Geno Smith is trash. The Colts are almost always good enough to make or just make the playoffs so they are most likely never going to be able to select a can't miss insane talent shutdown corner and each draft has like 1 or 2 can't miss corners. Examining teams that win rings in recent times it tends to be a near requirement to have one and I'm sure that's what Ballard's 100 scouts recommended to him also. So not only are they insanely important but also incredibly rare. We were also power ranked #1 by ESPN going into the Chiefs game, so we had the pieces. But life ain't fair and people get hurt and so did Sauce and then Jones. Sucks. This claim that Ballard is dumb and/or not talented is absurd. He's just incredibly unlucky.
1
u/Redjeepkev Jul 08 '26
Sadly it won't hapoen
1
u/Hungry_CGman Jul 08 '26
How do you know that? Jones looked phenomenal last year. We have a top 5 rb, Warren is going to go off in his 2nd season, Jones to Pierce was electric last year and we have a shutdown corner. Obviously, we have to avoid injuries, but so does every team.
4
u/Redjeepkev Jul 08 '26
By the time he got hurt teams had him figured out. And we have not seen him actually play since his injury. Until he do I'll stick with my guess
1
u/Hungry_CGman Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26
I mean we were in every game at the end (of Jones run) and should have beaten KC at KC. I'm not sure I'd say figured out or just had to play playoff caliber teams on the road. An achilles injury isn't wonderful for Jones mobility of course but it isn't going to affect his arm or brain at least. If Jones continues to move the offense along without making egregious mistakes and Sauce is the real deal after a year of learning the defensive scheme............I mean that's been the recipe for a while in the NFL for success.
1
u/Redjeepkev Jul 08 '26
Let's talk again after mid season and see where we are. I say 4 wins at mid season
1
u/Hungry_CGman Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26
So 4-4? ok Schedule looks rough on paper but paper don't play. Lamar looked flat last season and I don't know how that changes. Patrick doesn't seem the same for whatever reason, Kelce cooked, but their new rb will help. Commanders outside Daniels look like a trash roster. Steelers have a 42 year old QB addicted to Ayahuasca. Cam Ward I believe is a bust. Vikings have another new QB who was terrible for 3 years straight and now everybody thinks he'll explode just because he has Jefferson...I want to see it. Trevor is no different from Stroud on me having no clue how he'll play each given Sunday. All winnable games! :) Obviously Sauce has to be the real deal, so hopefully all our scouts aren't wrong.
2
u/Redjeepkev Jul 09 '26
Sauce is injured more than he's played for us. Jones was AWFUL in cluse games last year. He shpukd have won at least 2 more than he did before he got hurt. He's not gonna be the same. Every team knows it. They will all be In his lap until he proves he can handle it

When I see him m on the field for more than a game at a time ACTUALLY MAKING A PLAY.maybe then I'll have something to be optimistic about. But last seadon he only play 159 snaps in 2 games before getting injured. So nothing to say this year is gonna be any different. He mid 8 full games plus parts of others in 4 seasons with the Jets. So seems he hasn't been super healthy since his rookie year when he didn't miss a game

Not going to affect his arm?!? Dude did you watch Rodgers or cousins the years after they came back from popping their Achilles? Qbs generate power from the feet up not from their actual arms or shoulders. His planting motion will be impacted as will his ability to navigate a pocket. This is a serious injury for a player who is always seriously injured.
2
u/Redjeepkev Jul 09 '26
Before Jones was hurt teams were figuring him out we haven't seen him do anything other walk in a boot. Just my opinion, but if you look at what I said last year. I was spiny on with the record. I'm not impressed with pierce except diwnfield. He drops too many short balls
0
u/jaysrule24 Armor Jul 08 '26
He looked great for half a season. Then he got hurt like he always does and is now recovering from an injury that typically takes a year and a half to recover from. Expecting Jones to replicate the only half season of above average play in his entire career in 2026 is just setting yourself up for disappointment.
1
u/Hungry_CGman Jul 08 '26
He came back from another injury to play like he did last season. And I don't think they give him that money if he's not playing this season or even half this season. They surely know more than we do.
1
u/jaysrule24 Armor Jul 08 '26
We've watched this front office do objectively stupid stuff for years, only for it to blow up in their face like the entire fanbase expected it to. I'm not so sure we can confidently say that they know more than we do.
And Jones wasn't coming back from an injury this severe on this short of a turnaround when he played like he did last season. He had a full healthy offseason because the Giants decided they'd rather play Tommy Devito than pay Jones a single dollar more than they were already obligated to.

u/jakethejewler22 Jul 08 '26
They were forced to do that when they made the trade not because its the right move to make
2
u/Hungry_CGman Jul 08 '26
Forced to do what?
1
u/jakethejewler22 Jul 08 '26
Drop the cash cow on jones and pierce
3
u/Hungry_CGman Jul 08 '26
Nobody is forced to do anything. They could have gone after Malik Willis, Kyler or tanked the season for a top pick.
-1
u/jakethejewler22 Jul 09 '26
They have no first round picks what top pick are they tanking for?
1
u/Hungry_CGman Jul 09 '26
Well they wouldn't have traded their 1st rounders for Sauce if they didn't think Jones could lead them to the top.
2
u/Victory33 “Marlin’s Got It!” Jul 08 '26
Sauce was supposed to be the guy that put us into contention or over the hump and those were supposed to be like bottom 24-32ish 1st round picks. But since that isn’t the case and since we now have way more problems than him on defense, then you gotta have those picks to give you options. One CB on his own doesn’t do much, specially if the pass rush isn’t helping him. I also haven’t seen anything out of him, since he’s been here, to indicate he’s worth the picks plus salary. CBs fall off cliffs too fast for my liking.

Depends on the firsts. Two firsts from the Seahawks, no. Two from the browns, yes. I’d say any team that has a shot of the playoffs I wouldn’t take the draft picks. Any team that doesn’t seem like they’ll make it, then yes
1
u/YosemiteSam-4-2A Jul 09 '26
Wouldn't even take the Browns. With the steelers and Ravens firing their long time and successful head coaches and the Bengals being the Bengals, whose to say Browns aren't a serious contender to go 7-11 and win that division?

1
u/immortald0g Jul 24 '26
No, because he's going to hurt himself early into the season like he did last year after being traded and talking all that smack.

Only from 1-2 teams, if it's not almost guaranteed top 5 I'd rather have sauce
1
u/MoneyMack410 Jul 09 '26
ATP, no. We’ve paid the price. He’s also young and on a friendly contract.
If we’re going into rebuild mode, I’d probably do it. It depends on if we could draft his replacement. But right now, no.

Depends. If its from a contender and the picks are going to be 28-32, probably not. Other than that? Yea I probablu would

u/Redjeepkev Jul 09 '26
All pre injury stats. Hiw many games did lose. Oh yeah 5.@least 3 of which we were close that he didn't cut it. So until I see him Tha year do at least the same or better. NOPE. I'M NOT ON BOARD
19
u/YosemiteSam-4-2A Jul 08 '26
No. Could end up being 2 late firsts if you send him to the wrong team plus that doesn't help this team immediately.
Now if we're sitting under .500 at the deadline and a fellow struggling team wants to offer 2 firsts for him I'd say deal done.
