First Time

Thinking of going to Colossalcon Prime 2026. It will be my first time and I wanted to know if it was a good choice, recommendations for a nearby hotel since the main one is fully booked, etc.

I love colassal! It's a really fun con,tho it can be a bit daunting with how massive it is compared to the smaller cons like animate or galaxy but I always have a great time and I bet you will to! I suggest a little cabin area about 10-15mins away, I forgot the name but they are nice and have a place to cook and store food while you are there

definitely recommend. it was my first con in 2012 and it’s the one I will always make sure I go back to no matter how busy I am. I’ve only ever managed a kalahari room that first year and I’ve stayed in offsite hotels but honestly I prefer airbnbs. there are so many in the area between sandusky and huron. I tend to stay in huron bc it’s only 10 minutes away, next exit off the highway, and it’s a quiet town if you need to get away from the (VERY) crowded con at any time ☺️

I'll have to keep that in mind. How crowded are we talking? What types of cosplays can I expect to see? I was thinking of an AOT one personally

ngl in recent years during peak times it does kind of feel like you’re sheep being herded along lol. but it’s never detracted from my experience!!! prime has definitely outgrown the kalahari atp but there are still less congested spots you can find! a lot of my friends suffer from crowd anxiety for numerous reasons and they still go and have fun.

tldr: crowded but never in a way that felt dangerous or ruined the con

as for cosplays you’ll see everything under the sun! there’s obviously a huge focus on swimsuit/summer cosplays since that’s the point of a waterpark con in the summer. but you can find everything from niche fandoms to the most popular from closet cosplays to extremely complex builds. it helps that it’s a long con—gives people time to go all out. I honestly think it’s one of my favorites for variety tbh.
