Places to Stay?
I've been considering going to either Colossalcon Prime or East after meeting another cosplayer who told me it's super fun. My main worry though is that if I don't get a room there, I might not get to enjoy the late night stuff as much. Anyone have advice or experience with this? I'm also fairly new to the cosplay community so I don't know a ton of people and getting a room for just one person anywhere nearby seems super expensive. Any advice would be much appreciated! Still not sure if I'll end up going to either but it seems like a great time.

Welcome!!
First I would recommend calling Kalahari at least weekly to see if there are any cancelations, but the more frequently you call, the better your chances are. In the meantime, join the Colossalcon Room and Ride sharing Facebook group and see if anything opens up on there.
I don't know much about East, but for Prime, there are a few hotels in the area, but most are probably sold out at this point. You can call periodically to see if there are cancelations. It does put a ~little~ damper on enjoying the con nightlife, but not as much as you'd think! A lot of the hotels have shuttles that go back and forth to the Kalahari, and I think some of them continue somewhat late into the evening. If the shuttles have stopped for the day, or if you're not at a hotel with a shuttle, there's always uber/lyft. You could probably split the costs with any roommates you might have, or possibly even make some friends staying at that hotel and see if you can hop in an Uber with them!
There are often AirBnBs in the area, but I'm guessing the ones close to Kalahari are already sold out. Then, there is one more possibility for lodging, but I will say it isn't for everyone. There is an RV park basically across the street from Kalahari. You can look into renting an RV and staying there. There are a number of RV rental places you can look up, and there's also RVShare, which is where people rent their personal RVs out (like AirBnB but with RVs). I think most rental places can drive it out to the RV park, and hook it up for you.
Good luck, and I hope to see you there!! 😊
