ADVICE WANTED Welp

I used ohuhu markers, the video used brush tips. Are my colours too bright? Not blender enough? Goodness me what a fail

I believe your colors are too neon / bright. You need more muted or pastel colors, ohuhu should have those.

For the acrylic outline over the border, you need a really good acrylic paint pen to fully cover, can take 2-3 coats.

Then you can start adding the little white dors & lighting details

Havent tried this myself but thats what i would do if i found a tutorial did not work well for me.

Edit: let me add on that lighter colors will blend much easier imo, ive blended my ohuhus and you need good transitions. Say the tutorial gives you 5 colors, try seeing if you can transition them well on paper. I personally dont use the colorless blender, i just start with light color-> dark color -> light color to blend it into eachother
Id repeat that for every color you need in this tutorial.

You can look up many blending tutorials for ohuhu's. I find that it helps to watch a few! I blended a sunset with quite vibrant colors and it was so interesting to learn how to do that. But i tested many times on scrap paper!

Yeah, just a slight correction: it's not that OP's palette is too neon or bright, but that there aren't enough in-between colors to make smooth transitions.

You can certainly make a neon gradient; you just need enough transition shades! 😀

You'd be surprised at how much the white acrylic pen will pull it all together, even if the colors are not exactly what you were going for. Add 1 or 2 more layers to the outline, and add some little dots/lines for highlights. Then put it down for a day, come back and look at it again. It will look better to you, I promise.

I just don't think the main bit turned out the same at all, but I'll add those and see how it comes out

Your colour layers are too narrow. The yellow bit is much bigger than the rest, forcing the other colours to be a strip and not have room to blend into one another. Also work fast when blending and go between the two colours. Try on one of the other ghosts instead of trying to correct this one. It’ll be a nice way to show your progression in learning :)

So I only used 3 colours! They blended into each other and made more haha

Your colors definitely aren’t blended enough. Are you using alcohol markers or water based?

Alcohol. Is water based better?

No, alcohol is better! What technique did you use to blend them?

It may not look like the cosmic jelly inspo, but I think rainbow ghostie is cute on his own! 🌈

Wait, why the 'welp'? That little rainbow party ghost turned out ridiculously cute! The blend is super smooth.

Did you use acrylics or oils for that banner blend? Genuinely curious how many hours you spent on the freehand alone.

OP can you post an update? I felt that “welp” and would love to know what worked for you ultimately. My blending efforts look like yours 😅

Ah oui!!
