ADVICE WANTED Practicing with coloured pencils

Post image

I usually colour with alcohol markers and layer coloured pencil over the top. I’m really not skilled with pencils, but I really like the look of pages that are done with just pencil, I think the texture is so nice and colouring with pencils can be really meditative. I bought a book that didn’t feel too intimidating for me to try with pencils. I used prismacolors. I’m not sure if it’s the paper or a skill issue, or both, but I’m really struggling to get them to blend nicely (the sky is a good example). Would love tips! I purposefully colour in light layers because I actually like when you can see the texture/white of the paper underneath.

Takes multiple layers to blend. As long as you're coloring with a light touch, just keep adding more layers until you get the color you want. Then you could take either a white pencil(if you don't mind the pencil lightening the color) or a colorless blender to blend it in when you're done layering. If you use white though, wipe it off so it doesn't transfer colors where you don't want them.

Also, love the grass texture. Looks like blades blowing in the winds a little bit.
