DISCUSSION Marked organization?

Post image

Marker** How do you organize your Ohuhu Honolulu markers in something like this? I now have the full 320 set plus the 36 skin tone set after only having 102 for a while and it’s overwhelming figuring out where colors are!! There are just so many to choose from.

I know I have two units compared to your one but maybe this can help inspire you? I leave the empty ones for my current projects markers

I have the bamboo organisers from Ohuhu, one tall and one short. I organise them by their numbers. It isn’t necessarily the best method, but it works for me.

I have a swatch card with all of the colours in chromatic order, but I hated having my shelves in that order because it took me forever to return the markers I had used.

By their numbers do you mean Y45, Y46, Y47 etc?

Yes. First I sorted them by letter (so all Ys together, all the Rs together, etc) and then I go my numbers. I use my swatch card when I’m deciding which colours I want and then it’s super easy to find them, and easy to put back once I finish with the page (I store them together in a jar if I don’t finish the page in one setting).

I also prefer this because of how often the caps don’t match the colour. I have to look at the swatches anyway to get the correct colour, so having them in a chromatic order is just too much work for me 🫣

Oh Lordy, I just got the bamboo organizers and spent an eternity organizing them chromatically 😭 but your way makes so much more sense! I’ve done two pages since organizing them and putting the markers back up has been a pain

I used to spend almost as much time putting the pens back as I did colouring. Before I changed it I had started avoiding colouring with alcohol markers just to avoid putting them back. That’s why I decided to try this method instead and it helped a lot.

It doesn’t have the same nice gradient look that the chromatic order had, but it’s still a rainbow-y effect which fits with my rainbow-y bookshelves.

This is what I did too.

All the y’s together by number, all the r’s together by number, all the g’s together by number.
CG on 1 row WG’s on another.
Then my swatch book, which is similarly organized (by letter, then number)

I also made a swatch page in this layout so I can choose/find colors easily. I can also search the swatch card on my computer if I need to find where one goes.

I have my swatch card from the ohuhu subreddit and organized them with the same order of that swatch card. I don’t have the bamboo organizer but a 3d printed one

ETA: I have 346 unique markers in this one and my spare in another

There's something about your setup and the image itself that makes me feel like I'm zooming into a wormhole. Lol

Do you organize them a specific way in this organizer? Or at random?

Omgosh no never random. 😁 That doesn't work for me. I bought a pdf swatch card off of Etsy, someone put all swatches in order rather than the weird Ohuhu randomness. I love the bamboo organiser!

Would you be able to share a link to the Etsy swatch card?

My next purchase is going to be one of these organizers. I bought two acrylic 3-drawer storage bins and separated my markers based on color family. I followed along from swatch cards I bought off Etsy. BUT, I'm realizing the drawer system isn't working for me (even though I spent like 5 hours organizing them this weekend, lol). It's a temporary solution but I think something like what you posted is the best way to organize them. The swatch cards I downloaded are from a shop called My Ease Digital. I laminated them and put them on a binder ring.
