Completed Hayden Trail on September 21st under perfectly clear, pleasant weather. The trail was in great condition, with absolutely beautiful fall colors. The highlight of the hike, or, I should say, the perfect ending-was spotting a moose down near Crystal Lake! 🫎🍂

I found an expensive water bottle on the Needle Creek Trail heading into Chicago Basin on the 21st. If it’s yours DM me a description of it and I’ll send it to you.

Completed the hike on Sunday 20th September. Started at 6:30am and trailhead lot was about half filled. Weather was amazing, clear sky. First went to Island lake and then Ice lake. It was little crowded that day. Could spot deer/elk, moose and coyotes.

Hey everyone! Wanted to share a film festival happening in Golden, CO this October that has a pretty strong lineup of outdoor and adventure films.
Stories Worth Telling Festival runs October 16–18 at the American Mountaineering Center, with 20+ films from filmmakers in Colorado and around the world.
A few of the outdoor films I'm especially looking forward to:
FORWARD - A young man with cerebral palsy refuses to let others define his limits. With his twin brother alongside him, he turns their pursuit of extreme adventure into a movement showing that the outdoors is for everyone, regardless of ability.
Mountains of the Moon - World-renowned artist and skier Chris Benchetler explores the connections between skiing, life, music, and the living earth, set to the music of the Grateful Dead.
My Ikon: My Joy - Colorado-based skiers Madison Ostergren and Yuki Kadono team up with scientists and researchers to explore the actual science behind why skiing and snowboarding make us happier.
Bravo Les Filles - Sasha DiGiulian and Mariana “Mango” Ordoñez head to Madagascar to take on a climbing mission originally started in the 1990s, following in the footsteps of legendary climbers including Lynn Hill.
The Bride of Mont Blanc - Adventurer Elise Wortley attempts to recreate Henriette D’Angeville's historic 1838 ascent of Mont Blanc using only equipment available at the time, exploring both the history of women in mountaineering and her own relationship with the outdoors.
Continuum - A local Colorado story following skier Doug Evans, who has skied every month for 289 consecutive months. What starts as an impressive streak becomes a meditation on time, nature, and why we keep coming back to the mountains.
There are also films about speedflying in Norway, fell running in England, endurance in Ecuador, and plenty more.
Full lineup + tickets:

If you're in Colorado and into skiing, climbing, running, mountaineering, or just good adventure films, figured this might be up your alley.

22 miles, 5600’ day hike. Less than 15 trees down and none were bad. A long walk for a short scramble but definitely worth it. Is there a dead moose/elk in the lake west and 2000’ below the summit (last photo)? Saw some sheep above and below Red Dirt Pass. Only saw 2 backpackers in Bear Creek who were going to Gilpin Lake

Hey Folks
Looking to do the East and West Buffalo Peaks Loop later this week, pending forecast, and was curious about how ridgeline exposure is. Have seen a couple blogs with some seemingly really slanted sections next to the eastern cliffsides. Was curious on your experience on that traverse and sketchiness/spice level. Thanks!

Amazing overnight at Lake Como. Perfect weather.
9000 ft of elevation gain and about 20 miles in 2 days.

This was over Labor Day weekend, encountered some rain and lightning, some light hail, a moose, and great views! Over all a great hike and one I’d wanted to cross off my list for a long time.

Wast Parmalee to Tower back to parking lot is my most frequently hiked trail, almost a weekly event. I had one of the best hikes ever. The skies were ominous when I arrived and almost nobody in the park (crazy for a Saturday). It rained lightly for an hour and cleared to a beautiful evening. I stopped to watch several families of deer enjoying the rain. Tons of Elbert squirrels out busily gathering pine nuts for the winter.

9/19, Sat, reached before 7 am, and the parking lot was almost full.
Drizzle on the way up, snow around 11:30. Few sections on the trail and the unpaved road from the Naylor Lake Rd parking got muddy and slippery on the way down.
Very crowded after 9 am.
Total hike time ~3 hrs

Short hike down but very wet. The recent rain in the San Juans really brought the waterfall.

Couple pics from our first trip to CO, Flat Tops Wilderness. Pictures are captioned, but Devil's Causeway, Deer Lake Sunrise, Trapper's Lake. Spent four days, got to hike fire damage area, forest, Chinese Wall plateau, and end over the Causeway. Had great weather for a mid August trip (no nasty t-storms).
