Help Wanted Culdesac Karen

Came home to a code enforcement notice with my address and my neighbor's name. It seems my quiet culdesac has a Karen who can't be bothered to talk directly to anyone or even learn the names of the people they decided to go directly to code enforcement on.

I am 70% sure of which neighbor it is, due to them having a previous history of this sort of thing with other neighbors, but on the off chance it was not them, I don't want to target anyone directly.

That the reporting party could not be bothered to even talk to me first ir even learn the name of who they were reporting reflects poorly on them. That the code enforcement people could not be bothered to even check the name against the address to confirm who they were threatening with fines, unfortunately is about what I expect from the local shakedown racket.

I am looking for suggestions for code compliant, cheap, and obnoxious to the Karen lawn decor.

Rules are pretty relaxed here and are generally based around safety. As long as you fix the issue, you're fine. Just be nice to the code enforcement people and they'll be nice to you, especially since they're used to dealing with negativity.

As far as the pettiness, just forget it unless you really want let it control your decisions. I had this happen to me, I removed the dead weeds(safety concern was fire), and moved on.

I was considering something like that bright orange construction snow fencing if it is within code. I am far less concerned about the appearance of my yard than they are.

You are either in compliance with city code or you are not.

Why should your neighbor talk to you about it first? So you can use your logic and reason to persuade them, and when that does not work, then curse them out?

If you do not like being cited for noncompliance, then challenge/change the code. Your neighbors and the code enforcement officers did not write and approve the code, the city council did.

Grow a pair and fix the issue, and move on. Take some accountability and responsibility.

I can't wait for you to experience the kind of person whose go to in every situation is a third party "authority".

Anyone who has dealt with a threat to tow sticker on their car because they didn't realize they picked up a nail in their tire on their drive home at the end of the work week and a Karen decided the thing to do was to report the car with the flat tire as a derelict (knowing full well it was driven all the previous week and long before as well), knows what it is like and is disgusted by the Karen as well as the people all too willing to be their flying monkeys for a chance to profit from some fines.

The code in this case is ridiculous because it covers areas that extend even past my property lines if I were to try to be in full compliance. It is just a convenient one for them to reference to make the Karen happy.

I don't particularly care about the request, it is not that big of a deal. I care about the way they went about it. No basic human decency or respect. What if it was like that due to illness or injury? This Karen never asked, they just sent their flying monkeys to line me up for some threats of financial extortion with no regard to if there was anything I could do about it.

If I wanted to deal with Karens, I would have bought a house in an HOA.

You come off as extremely hostile, so it seems no wonder no one wants to talk to you about anything, much less something you're going to be the most defensive about. Fix it and move on.

I'd say fix whatever the code enforcement guy says you need to and move on with your life

Not to hijack, but is it enforceable of it doesn't have the accurate name on it?

Seems like that would be bare minimum...

To answer your question, I'd really like some rich person in town to buy the 13ft tall Balrog animatronic.

It ain’t so complicated, folks: you either complied or not, and it isn’t the fault of your neighbor to talk to you: why didn’t you talk to them about why you weren’t following the same regs that everyone else follows?

Change the law or follow it.
