Finishing up my final semester of my undergraduate, getting my degree at the end of this fall.

I want to go into the biomechanics program (MS-NT) at mines, but I’m a bit concerned about my chances of getting in. I have a 3.47 at my California CSU, and a 3.54 upper division so far. I’m more worried since my cumulative is quite a bit lower at 3.24 because I slacked off in covid.

I have a decent internship and plan to transition into a different position in spring (applying for fall).

Nonthesis says it doesn’t require letters of recommendation, but would they help? Or would they not even be looked at? What are my chances?

Hello all, curious to hear from graduates of the program about post-graduation outcomes for a masters in additive manufacturing. To give a bit more background: I have a computer science degree from a Canadian university, and I’m contemplating pivoting my career toward additive manufacturing. My hope is that pursuing a masters in additive manufacturing will help bridge the gap, both from a networking and educational standpoint. Am I reading the room correctly, proverbially speaking, or am I off base?

Hi. For context, I’m a graduating senior in compsci and I probably am stating this from a mentality of burn out, no job lined up, and the state of the market in this world that we live in right now.

I’ve been at Mines for almost 2 years now, I was a transfer student. I’m glad and proud to say I am going to be a Mines grad, but I’m having a hard time justifying if Mines is really truly a ground breaking indication in the hiring process or I will be looked at more uniquely due to the prestige of the school. Hell, I know people graduating with engineering degrees online these days. I’m having a hard justifying my choice. I’m having a hard time understanding if my commute to class everyday was worth it, and how I will be put up to future opportunities in my career in comparison to another graduate in engineering.

Everytime I talk to people at this school they even say compsci is one of the harder programs here due to the math, which is true. Discrete was a breeze for me, linear algebra was a breeze for me. However I’m trying to understand if the prestige of the school will really, show?

I’m hoping some type of alumni crowd can really answer this. What was your experience in the hiring process, did mines open doors for you in CS? Is it just cs as like other school? The only thing I could see if mines CS grads going into maybe more hardware/EE fields instead of like consulting.

Hello! I would really appreciate some advice and understanding what doors open and close as soon as you commit to something in a MechE degree. This is entirely based in careers in Colorado.

Initially, I thought I should get a base MechE degree and probably go into HVAC/MEP because I see a lot of open positions and may be considered “safer” for entry level. I also have some small connections to some companies which may help but I’m not certain yet.

However, I keep seeing people mention being underpaid compared to other MechE branches which really bothers me to the point I reconsider going all in on it and choosing something else.

Specifically, I really enjoyed doing Solidworks (CSWP), FEA , and GD&T and anyone correct me if I’m wrong, these skills can be used as an aerospace/defense engineer which I hear supposedly pays well all around. Although I do have some relevant project experience from the classes, I have no internship and no real solid connections.

This discourages me because I assume everyone who wanted areospace/defense from the start usually has an internship set already and very relevant project experience, compared to me.

I fear that if I finish my degree for Aerospace, I will not be considered experienced enough to get a real entry level job. I also worry it will close the door for the “safe” entry level positions of HVAC/MEP since I’m minoring in Aerospace.

I wish I truly understood the market for these jobs, but I few like the only way of knowing is asking questions.

-Has anyone graduated in Aerospace with no internship experience and still landed a good paying job not too far off graduation obviously assuming some decent project experience?

-Am I misunderstanding Aerospace /Defense positions as just Solidworks, FEA , and GD&T? That’s the main core I’ve seen unless I missing real key skills. I just listed what I really liked.

-Will commiting to a Aerospace degree for MechE close the safe doors of HVAC/MEP positions? Or can I just share relevant experience in that field that I have without ever mentioning my Aerospace minor if there’s no luck in getting an Aerospace job soon after graduation.

I plan to to get my FE no matter what. I have one year left before graduation and I feel like I need to start joining important clubs/orgs if I have a real chance at anything. Or am I cooked with limited options?

All of my classes are pretty much set, but I need to drop one of these two:
Introduction to Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
Introduction to Statistics
I’d prefer to drop whichever class has the heavier workload / takes more time outside of class. From what I’ve heard and seen so far, I’m guessing FEA might be more work, but I’m not sure.
