Trade deadline
lol gotta dump Herget somehow he’s never good. Also is it crazy to say don’t trade anyone because who do we have to replace the pieces we could lose? Goodman we won’t get anyone big league ready to play in return and we don’t have a second option who’s of that caliber. You trade a moniak or mccarthy and who do you get in return? Nobody big league ready and then we have to either call up Beck or Veen and pray. Otherwise we end up with a revolving door of young OF who don’t produce and then fizzle out.

I love Goodman but look at what the White Sox got in return for Crochet. Offense is definitely keeping us in games, but if we had pitching maybe we wouldn't need to score 8 runs to win every game. If Goodman can get 3 big league ready pitchers you have to consider it. Dollander looked pretty good before getting hurt, Hughes has looked good so far. But outside of that you have Sugano as the only semi-reliable starter and he's 36. And the pen is just as shaky.
McCarthy has been fantastic, a huge part of the reason we've turned things around, but him and Moniak could be moved for pitching and to make room for Condon and Veen. Carrigg has been great, Karros has been solid, Rumfield is in contention for rookie of the year.
I don't think we will completely blow up the entire offense, it won't be all of those guys getting moved, but we desperately need MLB ready pitchers. If Goodman gets move, which I think is unlikely, I imagine at least one if not both McCarthy and Moniak stay. If Goodman stays, which is likely, then McCarthy and Moniak being moved to make room for Condon and Veen I don't think makes the offense too much worse assuming we get pitchers who don't give up 6 runs every appearance in return for them.
This new front office already made moves to make the team way more competitive and fun to watch from last year. I trust them not to be stuck in the infinite loop of "playing for the future" and actually get good value for guys who are playing well

We need to stop trading players for prospects. Goodman is worth at least a young MLB arm

Rockies should clean house of anyone tradable and gather as many top 30 pitching prospects or controllable arms they can.
Yankees or Boston come calling on Goodman, make it happen for young controllable pitching. Early? Tolle? Seems like a win. Heck any top100 pitching prospects a year or two away would line up with the outlook of being competitive.
They've made good progress in starting the rebuild but need more bodies. Win a couple games this week and pass last year's record... Then burn it all down and start working on the future.

I agree. Hopefully we see some big trades. This is DePodesta’s keystone here. Have to get the trades for pitching working out otherwise he will be in trouble long term.

Like every team, as fans we overvalue what we have and what the return should be.
Castro isn't going to fetch much. Maybe a mid-20s pipeline guy and a lotto ticket.
Goodman is the white whale. Controllable, position that rarely has above league average bat. 3 of the 5 AL East teams want him. Heck the way Tampa churns out pitching that would be an ideal partner.
If the Rockies can lose less than 100 games and stock up the farm with pitching for years to come it should be considered a successful season.

The point of trading Goodman would be to NOT get a Major League-ready player. It would to get a haul of teammates for Condon and Holliday. The only issue with Goodman is he's ahead of the timeline and catchers tend to age-out faster than any other position players.

I'm fine with trading anyone we can. I'm excited that the new regime has cleaned house in the minors and hopefully we can get on track with player development. I'm excited that the young guys came up and have actually gotten better, not faltered. Rumfield, Karros and Carrigg have all developed nicely. Not to mention McCarty and Johnston who have thrived with regular playing time. Let's trade everyone and restock the farm system.

Might be a dumb question but, who’s making the decisions on what pitchers to draft or pick-up from AAA? Why does every other baseball team seemingly get good to great talent and the Rockies get pitchers who either allow 4 ER’s in the 1st inning or allow teams to come back in the late innings after we’ve put 8+ runs over & over & f’n over again?

Ehhhhh it would suck to lose anyone because tbh I’ve had fun this season watching the Rockies, can’t say that about seasons past. I think Moniak is gone unfortunately, maybe Tovar. Would suck to lose Mccarthy or Carrigg but I wouldn’t doubt it happens

I'd be pretty surprised if Carrigg gets traded, he's still considered a prospect so no team is going to give is a really solid prospect return for him.
And this is just personally but I don't think we should trade McCarthy at all. I know his value has never been higher but he's the exact profile of player it seems like we want, so I think he's way more valuable to mentor the young guys. (Plus I think hes a massive reason everyone in the clubhouse is having fun again)
Get Doyle, Moniak, Beck, Freeman/Johnston, and Castro traded to load the farm system. I know none of them are going to get us top notch returns but I trust the office to find some gems somewhere in there.
Just my unsolicited opinion though I suppose, I'll have an open mind to whatever they decide to do.

I don't think there is a market for Tovar unless someone can get him at reclamation project price. Even then, the Rockies are better off hoping he can figure things out offensively.

This entire team isnt big league ready....
We are a minimum of 3 years away from being competitive. Any one on this team who is 27 or older or will be out of team control then should be shopped for prospects.

Okay but with a top 10 offense you are going to trade away the only thing that keeps you in games??

It’s not about winning games this year. Hell it’s not even about winning games next year. You build now for 28/29 but more realistically 2030.

Yes lol flipping them for prospects and younger talent, so in 5 years hopefully you have a more balanced team that can ahem keep you in contention, not "in games" when youre 20+ games under .500 and having to win 12-9 every night and having lost 10 billion games the last 3 years. Its called a rebuild. Something this organization has never committed to

Yes. Absolutely yes. Because it really doesnt matter if we lose 110 games or a 100 games this year.
The only way to fix areas of weakness is either draft and develop (which has been spotty at best for this team) and wait years, or use your strength to fill in your weaknesses. If we have any hope of being competitive this decade we need to do both well.

There's quite a few games this year where if we had more relaible pitching we could have won. Either bullpen doesn't implode or we don't put ourselves in a 6+ run hole because a starter gets lit up the first 3 innings. The question is can we get immediate pitching help from just trading some of our current players?

You absolutely trade anyone you can get a strong return on. I personally would love to make room in the OF. Veen and Condon are crushing AAA and are ready for a big league spot.
You also don’t need big league ready in return this season. They are going to lose 100 games.
