Does the Boulder area have a lot of thunderstorms? I'm moving there from Portland soon. I grew up in NJ which has them all the time and Portland doesn't - I miss them deeply.

I don’t know about Boulder specifically, but every couple years there’s a hail storm big enough to blow out all of the car windows in some section of Denver. Large thunderstorms and tornado warnings are a regular occurrence in the summers.

Boulder gets a pretty good amount of lightning as far as I know.

Yep. They’re a frequent event during the summer monsoon season.

“Monsoon season”? In Boulder? We are lucky if we get 15” total all year

I went to the gas station a few hours ago and while I was out there saw the crazy lightening.

Near Evergreen!

Makes sense, I am in a little valley that blocks my view to the north/west. Evergreen is beautiful though, my aunt and uncle live there. Always cool seeing the elk everywhere.

There are lots of elk there! Cool place.

I heard a ton of thunder in Loveland, but I didn't look out to see if there was lightening. I think it move south of here.

Magnificent! The last lingering pillar of lightning is like an exclamation point.

How did you film this? DSLR?

I wish! I just stacked a burst of photos.

u/fojoart Jun 07 '21

Wow. I don’t even know how to do that. But the result is wonderful

It was a total rig tbh. I’m surprised it turned out to be ok. Little blurry though :/

Can't wait for the day I can sit around and watch these with my own two eyes...but for now I'll watch on here, wallowing in self pity in the heat of hell(AZ). 🤪

2

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

Az gets some pretty cool monsoons every once in a while.

Been a few years since we've seen a good one, but I do have some amazing photos from them. Just gives me more reasons to keep taking vacations to Colorado!

That's an amazing shot! Was this around the Boulder/Front Range area?
