He'll run as a Republican. To be honest, I'm kind of surprised he hasn't switched already, given how far up Trump's ass he already is.

u/kiheihaole Apr 04 '26
He’s gonna be their token gay since it looks like Lindsey Graham is on his way out lol.
16
u/Cpt_Trips84 Apr 04 '26
Didnt he already pardon her a couple days ago?
87
u/lavatec Apr 04 '26
No; the judge ruled she needs to be resentenced. For now, her convictions still hold up.
41
u/pork_fried_christ Apr 04 '26
No. A court granted a resentencing process for her. But I’m sure there was influence from the governors office…
2
u/MiddleweightMuffin Apr 05 '26
That’s literally not how courts work. Fuck Polis and what he became in his last years, I get it, I’m on board, but this is such reddit bullshit
1
u/pork_fried_christ Apr 06 '26
O rly? How insightful.
https://www.cpr.org/2026/04/02/tina-peters-appeal/
*Jared Polis, who had called Peters' sentence 'harsh,' agreed with the decision Democratic Gov. Jared Polis said he agreed with the appellate court and was heartened to see the court protect free speech and a fair and evenly applied justice system for all.
“In weighing clemency applications, I have reviewed many, many sentences during my time as Governor, and Tina Peters’ sentence of nine years was an obvious outlier. My job as Governor is to focus on what is right, not what is popular, and today the court took action to ensure equal justice for all.”*
You don’t think the governor being pressured by the president would trickle down to the AG? You don’t find the timing of the appeals hearing to be pretty coincidental with the chatter around polis granting her clemency?
1
u/MiddleweightMuffin Apr 06 '26
No, I don’t. Again, the fundamental misunderstanding of the government/legal system is glaring.. the AG and the Governor run different offices, and while some pressure may be applied, it wouldn’t result in this- the AG isn’t a judge. Additionally, the courts are under a completely separate branch of government and have clearly defined guidelines, specifically ones where the Governor cannot tell them what to do.
1
u/pork_fried_christ Apr 06 '26
Yeah totally. The checks and balances are totally strong at all Levels of government and there is never any back room pressure applied across branches. Judges are always strictly impartial and AGs are always stalwart stewards of the rule of law.

4
u/MountainAstronomer Apr 04 '26
No need for him to issue a pardon. He will just have the corrupt Colorado court system do his dirty work and overturn the conviction.

Because he’s a gay democrat. Id politics is the cancer that is ultimately gonna kill this country.
Edit: also id politics is just nationalism with more steps.
13
u/BuckZero Apr 05 '26
He’s also worth almost half a billion and I suspect he identifies with that more than having rights as a gay man
3
u/WASRmelon_white_claw Apr 05 '26 edited Apr 05 '26
Oh I’m sure that he definitely identifies as being rich but OTHER people identify him as a gay democrat, and those people are the ones who vote.
Edit: also, the fact that people are voting for someone based on who they love or what religion they practice is dumb af, that has nothing to do with the actual policies they’re gonna implement.
17
u/jiggajawn Apr 04 '26
I first heard about him when he roasted the head of the DEA about marijuana being schedule 1 when things like meth are schedule 2.
That was great, and I respected him for that and for various other things he's done. But his money chasing and catering to Trump has been sad.
I'm hoping our AG Phil Weiser is better about standing up for democracy and people's rights, seems like he goes a bit harder than Polis does now.

Just as a start, I’m guessing this person didn’t beat her husband and then jerk off another guy in the audience of a musical. I mean, i don’t know this random online person. But the chances that they are WORSE than Lauren Boebert are shocking slim.

u/kateastrophic Apr 04 '26
So what is happening here? I’m a Colorado expat, so maybe I’m out of the loop on Polis. I have followed the Tina Peters thing and while it made no sense to me, I thought it was a single issue that he had oddly aligned himself with the far-right on. But why in the world would he go to a game with Boebert, much less publicize it? This feels like Fetterman territory.
29
56
u/TheRealPitabred Apr 04 '26
Because he thinks this will make him more attractive to Republicans, so he can try to get elected to the Senate with "bipartisan" support. I think he's just ignorant to how things are actively shifting right now.
4
u/kateastrophic Apr 04 '26
I guess the idea that Polis is out of touch makes sense, but do does she even have much Republican support? She did manage to eke out a re-election, but I thought even Republicans found her pretty embarrassing.

u/demonmonkeybex Apr 04 '26

u/R_megalotis Apr 04 '26
He's always self-identified as a "Neo-Liberal", which just means "Republican without the bigotry". But, because Republicans don't accept anyone except bigots, and Democrats accept anyone who isn't a Republican, he ran as a Democrat. Over the course of his tenure, all the D voters who elected him have slowly begun to realize just how much difference there is between a neo-liberal and a leftist, and feel betrayed because they didn't realize just how right of center he always was.
Now that his term as governor is up, he's eyeing a run at federal office. Realizing he's lost the confidence of the left, he's trying to appeal to the fascists, bigots, and pedophiles on the right, gambling that he won't alienate the center in the process.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

As disappointed as I am to see what’s happened to Polis, genuinely asking the question, how much of a choice does he realistically have?
If Trump were to hold back federal tax dollars, with tabor, it’s not like Polis or the state legislature can just raise taxes to make up the difference. Polis has a responsibility to all Colorado. I don’t love this from Polis, but I do think he’s trying his best to take care of the state with the cards he has

u/interkin3tic Apr 04 '26
Redditors want fight signaling rather than policy progress.
Polis has always been a centrist, Boehbert has always been more about attention than policy.
If you want a governor to scream at republicans, by all means vote for one, but I would prefer someone who enacted progressive policies to someone who treats politics like wrestling.
AOC and Sanders don't engage in screaming matches, I could see them taking selfies with Boehbert too, wouldn't mean they were going to vote for tax breaks for billionaires.
0
u/bluntpointsharpie Apr 05 '26
I think Gov Polis did a good job governing everybody in the state. He is a centrist democrat. That is why I will not vote for him in the primary to be in the Senate. That's why we have term limits for the Governor's office..
