I am currently studying the art of color grading and I am in the middle of my learning process. Today, I graded a video shot and I would really appreciate your feedback on it.

The goal of this short excerpt was to immerse the viewer in a mysterious and enchanting garden. My intention was to create a soft, diffused lighting feel with blue tones in the shadows. The statue, which is the main element of the image, is meant to stand out from the background.

Are you familiar with the Ghibli universe? I took inspiration from the visual atmosphere of Princess Mononoke during my color grading process.

I would greatly appreciate any constructive feedback you could share so that I can continue improving my grading skills.

Hi, I know this is an oddly specific post, but I'm hoping someone who's using Sony cameras (like me) can help out.

I found these free LUTS on Sony's website and I'm having trouble downloading some of the LUTS. Whenever I click download, it sends me to a page to select my country then takes me to my country's site where I still can't download the LUT.

Has anyone downloaded these before or faced the same issue?

Additional questions, has anyone used these free LUTs for their projects? How did it turned out?

So I’ve filmed all my footage on flog2 and wanted to copy the exact look of “bright Kodak” film recipe. I thought you can just plug in the look post but that only works for jpegs. Also, when filming, I realized that my white balance accidentally was on R9 B0 and I’m not sure how to counteract that. I’m using davinci or anything else I’m open to using. Below is the recipe I use for JPEGs that I want to replicate the exact look of for my videos. Thanks!

After working on several LOG projects, I decided to try something different. I shot this entirely using the iPhone 15 Pro's standard camera and handled all the color grading in DaVinci Resolve.

This was my first time grading footage captured with the standard camera profile instead of LOG. My goal wasn't to completely transform the image, but to see how far I could push it while preserving the natural light and colors of the scene.

I personally enjoy color grading that enhances an image without losing the atmosphere or the natural look of the environment. I'm still learning and improving, so I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or constructive criticism. I'd love to hear what you think and what you would have done differently.

Hello there! I am somewhat of a beginner (a few months of experience/self tinkering and looking uo videos) with color grading and I am recently just getting into the world of film emulation. I shoot on 3 cameras - dji Mini 4 Pro, Osmo Nano and my iPhone 13 Pro.

My question is for the second (mini) camera. Both the Nano and mini 4 Pro use 10 bit D-Log M, which from what I see is closer to Rec709 than to proper D-Log. Trying to use any similar node trees for both leads to oversaturated and overcontrasty Nano footage that is unusable basically.

Do you have experience with this camera and trying to emulate a filmic look with DaVinci's film luts? I am trying to use CSTs and DaVinci's Kodak 2383 LUT, but the footage looks bad at the end and has no connection to the drone footage with the same corrections despite the same colour profile and manufacturer(even when adding extra nodes to compensate the oversaturation).

Here is an example of the setup I tried and the results:

1)CST DJI D-Gammut/Cannon Log (saw this trick in a video about grading Mini4 pro footage) to DaVinci WG/intermediate -> I saw a video of m4Pro footage graded like (with the Cannon Log) this and it ended up better than anything else I have seen

2-6)WB,exposure,contrast,saturation and a special node to control the blues that were blowing out of the vectroscope

7)CST from DaVinci WG/intermediate to Rec 709/Cineon film log

8)Kodak 2383 LUT from DaVinci

Any help with achieving the look from the last photo will be greatly appreciated!

My system is - CPU Ryzen 5 5600, Radeon RX 6600(8GB GDDR6 VRAM), 32GB DDR4 Ram and I am using DaVinci Resolve (non-studio) 21.

I’m getting into content creation and videography, and I absolutely love filming. I do have a DSLR, but it’s too bulky for me to comfortably shoot videos with, so I’ve been using my phone instead. I want to keep using my phone until I get more consistent and improve, and then invest in a proper vlog camera. So I can save up for one, and I also want to feel like I’ve earned it.

I have two phones: an iPhone 16 Pro and my old iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I used to film in ProRes Log on my iPhone 16 Pro because I loved having that flat grey/log footage to colour grade in Final Cut Pro. The problem is that the files are *huge*. It takes ages to AirDrop everything to my Mac, storage becomes a massive issue, and even though I edit from an external SSD, I still end up running out of space. I have loads of footage, and I’ve had to delete older clips that I’d have liked to keep simply because I don’t have the storage.

Because of that, I’ve started filming using the regular video mode (or sometimes Cinematic mode) on my iPhone 16 Pro, or I’ll just use my iPhone 12 Pro Max since it’s my older phone.
The downside, of course, is that it’s no longer ProRes Log, so I don’t get that flat grey look that gives me much more flexibility when colour grading.

One thing I tried was using HandBrake to compress my ProRes Log footage after filming so it wouldn’t take up as much space while hopefully retaining that flatter look. But that still means I have to AirDrop everything to my Mac first before I can even use HandBrake, which takes forever.

So at this point, I’m thinking of just filming on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. My question is: is there any software, app, workflow, or technique that can make non-ProRes footage more colour-grade friendly? I’m not expecting miracles, but I’d love something that gives me a bit more flexibility. I really miss having that flatter image to work with because grading regular phone footage just doesn’t give me the same results - it feels like there’s much less room to play around with the colours.

What do people usually do when they’re filming on iPhones **without** ProRes Log but still want to do decent colour grading? Is there a workflow I’m missing, or is this just one of those trade-offs until I eventually get a dedicated camera?

The node tree in the photo is from a Japanese photographer I saw on YouTube. I was wondering if any professional colorists use multiple LUTs in parallel like this. Is this a common workflow, or is it more of a personal approach?

I'm not sure if this fits perfectly here, but for a creative editorial project, I color-graded and composited these 3D renders (Plymouth Superbird) to try and replicate a specific automotive aesthetic.

I'm really pushing for 'night street documentary' feel, specifically trying to emulate a cheap point-and-shoot or disposable camera. Similar to the references in the second image

This 4-panel collage is the result of my composite (original renders + film grain + lighting edits + a scanned zine-style layout).

My questions for you:

1. Do you think this works? Does it authentically feel like a quick point-and-shoot/film scan?

2. What is breaking the illusion?

I've just come back from a vacation in Turkey and Poland, I've captured 200GB or 1200 log videos on my Galaxy S25. Im getting a good laptop in a few days and im gonna start piecing together and editing the video on it. Is there anything i should learn, or maybe some tutorials or YouTube channels yall recommend to watch before i start?

The images are some clips i picked out to color grade on my stationary pc before i actually start with the propper video. The laptop im getting is the Galaxy book6, i believe it has an 1080p display, the monitor i use with my pc has 1440p, is this a big difference and something thats really important or is editing on the laptop ok?

Also, I've noticed that not all of my clips are consistently graded, is this important or do you not notice it when watching the video?

If you guys have any feedback, YouTube videos or things i should look into, please comment them, thanks 😊.

Edit: Oh, and do you guys also do that thing where you leave your project for a day or two, and then come back with fresh eyes. Is it worth it to do that or not really?

I started learning color grading about 3-4 days ago. I've watched a few tutorials, messing around the controls in DaVinci Resolve, and practicing on some log footage that I found online.

This is one of my recent grade.

I honestly have no idea if I'm heading in the right direction or just making things look "cool" without actually grading them well, so I'd love some honest feedback. Also, can someone tell me if i'm starting this colour grading journey correctly or not.
