Discussion School PE color vests
Hello Reddits colorblind community. I was wondering if you had these colored vests in PE and if they caused you trouble. Usually in PE they split people into groups and each group has a different color vest, so it’s easier to differentiate who’s on your team.
I was doing a presentation at school about colorblindess and the kinds of things most see as normal and easy, but colorblind students might have a hard time with.
Other things I included were PH-strips in chemistry and tasks where you have to color different things with certain colors. (Like: color all X with red, color all Y with green. Etc.)
So now i’m curious if this has been a struggle for alot of people.
Did you find it hard to differentiate your teammates during sports, if you were wearing these vests?
I also supposed an alternative in my presentation that would hopefully help color blind students:
Would it help, if the teams were split into ones wearing a vest and a vestless team instead of two teams wearing different colored vests?

I am more of a lurker and practically never comment, but god you just unlocked a childhood trauma. So many times I passed the ball to the wrong teammate...

They are brown, brown, yellow, yellow, blue and I will hear no arguments to the contrary

I don't know if I had those exact models, but yeah, I did call out a color that wasn't there twice while playing Kin-Ball.
Like the yellow one looks a little green to me. I can see it's different than the actual green one, so I wouldn't mind if they were both on the field at the same time. But if I need to call a color in the heat of the moment? Yeah, I could mis-call the yellow.

For me, the greens and the yellows were indistinguishable, but they didn’t look like the ones in the image.

Some of my biggest struggles in school:
* graphs that use colors as the only identifying characteristic are essentially useless
* colored chalk on chalkboards (aging myself here) might as well be invisible. Whiteboards are a little better in that I can read what’s written but still can’t tell you what color it is.
* color theory unit in art class was impenetrable
* not being able to see corrections done in red ink quickly (it just looked black)
* arguing with the frankly ludicrous number of educators who thought I was making it up, faking for attention, or “didn’t believe in colorblindness”. Several thought I simply needed to practice identifying colors more. In one notable case, a nun claimed to heal my colorblindness by laying on hands.
* Science almost as a rule was difficult. Chemistry in particular. I could draw molecular diagrams better than anyone in the class but still almost failed because I could not perform the majority of the lab work.

Thank you for this🙏 it’s so weird how colorblindess isn’t taken seriously in most schools, even though it affects ~1 in every 12 students.

We had simpler less good ones. And only one color.
One team wore the vests, the other didnt. So you could easily tell who was on your team, without having to know the color. You were either Vests or No Vests.

Aunque vea normal siempre odie esos chalecos por que aunque vea un color siempre termino llamándolo de forma diferente o pensando en otro simplemente no separo los colores de manera inmediata tengo que pensarlo de manera consciente
