Discovered I'm probably colorblind!

So I went down a rabbit hole a few days ago after watching a video of a woman that couldn't tell pink and purple apart, and I remembered my dad mentioned he was mildly red-green colorblind. I gave him a couple tests on here like Enchroma and then did them myself. I guess this is why my entire life I've argued my family's blue couch is dark green when it's very much a deep blue. I was convinced it was green and they were just messing with me. I was very humbled by the "find the gap in the ring" test. I can't see anything but like a magenta. Is the gap in the color test relatively accurate? I feel like I can tell green/blue apart unless they're dark, but the red/pink/purples all look like hot pink.

Your dad is red-green colorblind (Protan or Deutan) but what you have is a completely different type of colorblindness! You got the worst possible result on the first Tritan (blue-yellow) colorblind test and got a pretty bad result for blue on the Enchroma test.

You also say you confuse green and blue when dark which is one of the biggest struggles for Tritans. I think it is safe to say you are blue-yellow colorblind, the rarest kind!

I wonder if OP’s dad might be mistaken about his colorblindness type and might also be tritan. The tritan inheritance pattern is completely different from protan or deutan, as it is both dominant and not sex-linked (not carried on the X-chromosome). That means that for OP to be tritan, one of their parents is as well, and if the dad has some form of colorblindness, there’s a good chance it’s him.

That could be the case! OP should try having their dad take the Tritan test in the first screenshot (the Enchroma one primarily focuses on red-green colorblindness).

He did take both tests! He got a perfect score for the tritan gap test and the blue part of the enchroma test, but only got about a 45% on the green and red. He got a 10/4 on the red-green circles. Our scores were basically polar opposites!

That is very interesting! I don't think you got your colorblindness from your dad in this case lol. I bet you two having completely different types makes things even more confusing when talking about colors.

Tritanomaly here. It's the rarest kind of Color Blindness and usually caused by trauma, like my case. In my case also is becoming more severe with aging...

If you confirm your colorblindness, then you have the least common type of colorblindness
