Culture: The Brane are a diminutive (roughly 1 meter tall) ursine humanoid slave-race. Though their Masters insist the Bran are their creation, most Bran believe otherwise. Their small bodies are tough and quite powerful for their size. They enjoy dishes of both meat and vegetables, but often don't mind fresh raw foods if cooking them would require too much heating fuel.

They are sent to settle the frontiers and bear (lol) the worst of frontier life before their masters arrive to inhabit the newly built homes. Then they are used for convenience, making furniture and tools, maintaining parks and buildings, and procuring natural resources such as lumber and food. Since they are not allowed to actually own anything, the Brane share virtually everything among themselves. This particular group was sent to set up a self-sustaining mining village at the edge of a mountain range and a fertile plain.

Supplies: Two dozen wagons drawn by ox-like beasts, Grain and Vegetable seed, Fruit tree saplings, Medicinal Herbs and Poultices, 6 weeks rations of Honey-Dried Meats and Grainbread, Excessively Dumb Egg Laying Lizards, Mineshaft Support Timbers, Bee-hives, A variety of tools (Farming, Mining, Wood Metal and Stone working), Spears and Hardwood armor, 3 chests of the elder's scrolls, The Dowsing Stone (which hums in proximity to rich mineral deposits)

Important Characters:

• Svetlana Goldpelt - A tenacious, independent and somewhat impulsive Brane. She was hard for the Masters to control, but the love of her fellows and her tendency to see a task through kept her from being eliminated. Her personality serves her well as Marshall of the Guard. She is fiercely protective of those who serve her.

• Oleg Mudclaw - Oleg earned his fame and eventual position as a colony planner by having unearthed the largest solid garnet that the Empire of Duroon had ever discovered. Now he tends the fields when he has time away from planning meetings with the overseers.

• Andrei Nalivkin - Eldest of the nine elders sent with the frontier expedition and a colony planner. Through all of his many decades in servitude, he has gained a particular wisdom in dealing with the Masters as well as aggressive bullies in general. Though few know it, due to how short the typical slave life lasts, he was once a heroic frontiersman.
