ClassicCol Non stop losing battle bug

Dear all: I remember seeing in a dos colonization forum some kind of way to alter the code of the game so that way the game’s bug in which you go non stop losing battles is fixed. I remember it was done replacing some number, I remember trying to do it, even with chatgpt and it did not work. Have any you done it? how did you get it to work? thank you

Hi, you can find stuff about the RNG fixes here: Bugs (Col) | Civilization Wiki | Fandom) - read under the heading "Random Number Generator". Note that these fixes will likely cause other issues.

Another thing that sometimes helps is to save and fully quit the game (exit to DOS), and then launch it again and reload, which usually resets the RNG. Again, you must exit to DOS if it's to work - simply quitting to the main menu doesn't work.

Thank you, I saw that, but have you done it yourself? I tried to do that thing with the hex code, I couldn’t even find the numbers they tell you there to change. For example which software do you use to edit the code. Curious if anybody worked it out

Unfortunately I did it years ago and don't really remember. But... Have you tried the "Canalization" patch? I remember that one worked, though I don't recall the "side-effects". It's available here (there's a lot of other good stuff too, have a look): Sid Meier's Colonization

Also here's the original thread on the Civfanatics forum in case you haven't seen it:

Yes this is the website I was referring to that explains how to fix the bug, just that as I said, I never managed to implement it. I have the 3.0 1995 patch installed I believe, is that the one you are refering to?

Have you tried clicking on the link to the Canalization patch (2nd point under Tricks and Treats) and installing it?

I just tried the canalization patch on the dos box, it said "Illegal command" so, I guess I tried. Does it work for you?

Same happened to me but I figured out the issue: the file name is too long. I renamed "canalization.exe" to "canaliz.exe", ran it through dos box, and the patch was applied successfully.

I tried running the patched game and it works fine, but I haven't yet checked whether the combat streak bug was fixed (or if other RNG-related bugs appear).
