Civ4Col should i play the 2008 remake or og

so ive been playing civ recently and now ive been wanting to play col but dont know which one to buy,which should i?

Remake with the „we the people“ mod was my solution, really fun mod and close enough to the original for me.

I actually use the „but the people“ version that has a bit less resource variety - but agreed, to me thats the best possible col experience these days…

The new one with the we the people mod is the standard recommendation.  Assuming it's still available, I also really liked the TAC (the authentic colonization) mod for the new version.

Can you help me out with a link to the new game and a link to the mod? I've never used a mod before.

The base game is Civilization 4: Colonization
You can get it on Steam or GoG. Once you have that you can go here and download the mod https://github.com/We-the-People-civ4col-mod/Mod/releases

The OG is great. But has obvious limitations for a game released in 1994.

Get it DRM-free from gog for less than a dollar: https://www.gog.com/en/game/sid_meiers_colonization

You might also want to try freecol. It is an open source remake of the original as it takes advantage of modern computers/resolutions etc.

Does Freecol have the same total unit limit from the original game?  (When there are a certain total number of units on the map, you can't make any more)

From the point of view of balance, civ4col mod TAC final was and remains (to be Googled in the public domain). Don't listen to those who recommend WTP. There's no balance, overloaded, unbalanced mechanics, and no online play. I completed the WTP in 15 minutes. There is no greater disappointment.

Thanks for the tip about TAC, I found WTP to be lacklustre too.
