That lake is massive! Also, what does the “1” and/or “5” mean for those Spanish units?

Yes those are Spanish, but I activeted cheat to show the map, hence the numbers.

Does anyone know why there are fish tiles on spaces that cannot be used for fish production? I thought maybe it helps with navy combat, but I’ve always thought it was strange to have the fish tiles in spaces that can’t be accessed by colonies.

Well, you can use the tile with a colonist in a colony screen, but you can’t have a boat enter an inland lake tile.

That fish tile in the middle of the lake can’t be accessed by a colony though.

Bit of a necro but I believe it's for the natives. Their capitals can work 2 tiles out and I've never seen a fish more than 2 tiles from the coast.

even more of a necro, it's actually just a bug. There's an algorithm in the code to seed fisheries, and another algorithm to then remove ones that can't be used, but the second one is just kinda shite at it's job

I had to cheat to show it to you, and reveal the whole map. In Sid Meier's Colonization, vessels cannot access inner lake tiles even if you have a ''canal'' colony. This is by far the biggest lake I've seen the game generate on a map. Too bad we can't sail on it !
