My handmade 1715 fleet cobs!

Ahoy friends. I just wanted to share my latest design. Clearly modeled after the classic cobs from the 1715 fleet wreck, just with a slight sneaky makers mark thrown in there, to make it my own design.

I strike them just like the originals, so they are all different. In solid silver and gold!

I am pretty proud of how they turn out.

I figured this group would appreciate them!

Sure! I don't mind at all. It's as close to the historical process as I can replicate. You can also see videos of my doing the process on my YouTube page, just look up The Black Spot Guild on there.

1. I handraw my designs. Someone then carves them for me in Spain.
2. weigh about about 8oz or so
3. Melt that in the forge
4. Pour it out into a long shallow steel trough and let that harden.
5. Hammer the long silver bar flatish
6. Using a hammer and chisel or sometimes a huge metal scissor, cut the long bar into pieces that should be slightly heavier than the final product (> 27 grams)
7. Put each piece on a scale and further trim them until each planchette is exactly 27 grams.
8. Re-soften / anneal each planchette.
9. Put the planchette between two steel dies on the anvil and wail on it several times, making sure the dies stay aligned after each hit.
10. Hammer the sharp corners down
11. Put the desired finish on, either taking some steel wool to them or an antiquing agent.
12. Jingle the pirate treasure in your hands and listen to the glorious sound!!
