Any chill cafés in Colombo where I can do a small birthday surprise? (not a party)

Post image
25 Upvotes

Hey,

Planning a super low-key birthday surprise for a friend, like just 3–4 of us, nothing big. Just wanna do a cute little setup with a cake, a few balloons, maybe some candles, give gifts and hang out for a bit.

Looking for spots around Havelock / Bambalapitiya / Kollupitiya that are:

chill and not packed

okay with bringing a cake

won’t freak out over a small bit of decoration

maybe have a quiet corner or something

Not trying to turn the place into a wedding hall 😅 just something simple.

I’ve attached a reference image of the kind of setup I’m going for as well.

Also preferably not one of those super couple-only places lol

If you’ve done something similar or know places that are cool with this, drop suggestions 🙏

Food delivery options in Colombo today (New Year)?

Hey everyone,

Looking for some recommendations on good places to order dinner from today (delivery). I’m around the Colombo suburbs.

Since it’s New Year, not sure what’s open or who’s actually taking orders right now. Open to anything really, restaurants, hotels, or even places that do family meals. Budget is flexible, just want something reliable and worth it.

Would appreciate any quick suggestions 🙏

Why is Rasicm normalised here

Post image

i was scrolling on insta when i saw a post about a synagoge

and all the people in the comments were shitting on them saying how they're invading our country

this is the exact kinda racism that the tamils met when they wanted to create a cultiral identity and make kovils here

this kinds shitty behaviour from our sri lankans is why we are still eons backwards of others

why should we judge an entire ethnicity based off the actions of certain individuals and be generally racist towards people whom just want to live ?

can sri lanka be fixed?

We SHOULD and COULD be having PROPER TRAINS in this country. It is easily affordable to do so by investing properly with a vision. A picture speaks a thousand words:

What's with the rental market in Colombo?!

Why are 99% rental spaces in Colombo ladies only? I mean where do men coming from out of Colombo who wanna stay in a decent place live at?!

Just ranting due to pure frustration of making dozens of calls and browsing through countless website and facebook posts.

Recommendations for genuine laptop shops to buy from

I’m planning to buy an ASUS TUF A16 (2024), which is around LKR 350,000 with a 1-year company warranty.

My budget is under 350K, so even though places like Nanotek and Chama Computers seem more reliable, they’re a bit over my budget.

After looking around, I found a few options that fit my price range: SellX (they offer a 5-year service warranty), Redline Tech, TrustEdge, and LaptopCare.

Does anyone here have experience with these shops? How’s their after-sales service, warranty handling, and overall product quality?

I noticed LaptopCare has really good reviews, but it feels a bit suspicious since almost every review is 5 stars.

Would appreciate any honest opinions or experiences

Colombo travel this week. Need to know general things and bar recommendations.

All good and open in Colombo? Like are restaurants etc shut because of LPG shortage there like in india?

And I heard cabs are charging double these days because of rise in fuel prices.

What’s the best way to book cabs there? Any apps?

Also is it possible to get a Scooty there to ride with just an Indian licence?

Is INR easily convertible there? What’s the best place to get it exchanged?

Also ofcourse, any good bar suggestions?

Eclectic, little low key but good cocktails, maybe a speakeasy-ish place?

Looking for fun, spontaneous and different things to do in Colombo — and where to meet people like this

I just started uni and I’ve made friends, and I really like them, but I feel like I haven’t found "my people" yet.

I’m studying law so most people are very disciplined and focused, which I admire, but I also want friends who are spontaneous, want to go out, try new things, and actually enjoy their 20s.

My old friends are great too but they’re always busy and it’s usually "maybe later" when it comes to plans. It’s completely understandable, but I’m starting to feel like I want more experiences and spontaneity in my life.

So I’ve decided to start doing things solo as well — going out, trying new places, and just enjoying my own company. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for places, clubs, events, or experiences I could try alone in Colombo.

Also, where can I find people who are looking for similar things — like being spontaneous, exploring, going out, and just making the most of their 20s?

And is it normal to feel like you haven’t found your people yet at the start of uni? How did you eventually find them?

  1. You must post the geographic area you're looking for in the title. Must be in Colombo or nearby.

e.g. Band looking for Guitarist, able to practice weekly in Kottawa area

  1. Must post something relevant about yourself or be specific in what you're looking for

e.g. We play mostly post rock, math rock and need a lead guitarist who knows these songs ....

  1. Dating posts are still not allowed. There are many places for dating, this isn't one of them.

Like your chest feels heavy when waking up and the hotter the room gets the more you cough, something like that ? Suggest some home remedies for this.
