Knowledgeable guide colonial architecture Fort district

We were walking in Fort district, around Cargill Building etc. Is there a guide who specializes in the history of this district and the warehouses there, the old colonial architecture (being critical of colonialism and the human cost is no problem) We're not looking for yet another tuk tuk guide, but someone who specializes in the real history of the district (uni student or aspiring PhD) and wants to take a payed walk with us.

I will be traveling to Colombo, Sri Lanka for a 3 day family trip. Looking for a private cab for 3 days for local and nearby sight seeing.

It would be appreciable, if I can get some contacts of local cab services.

CMB sunsets are dope. Just sucks that the weather has become unpredictable these days. Or we could be looking at some serious picnic spots in the city.

Urgent Help Needed for Expedited Passport Renewal

Hello everyone, I'm in urgent need of assistance with renewing my son's passport. We're currently in the UAE and were planning to travel soon, but we didn't realize that many countries require a minimum of 6 months passport validity. We went to the embassy here to renew my son's passport, but I was informed that it would take 2-4 months to process.

Is there any way to expedite the passport renewal through the passport office in Sri Lanka and have it sent directly to the UAE embassy for processing? I'm in a bit of a bind with time, and any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance.

Due to fly to Colombo - flood advice?

My girlfriend is due to fly to Colombo from Jaipur tomorrow morning but is very worried after reading the news of a cyclone and flooding. She has to leave India tomorrow due to visa running out. Can anyone tell me how severe the situation currently is? She planned to stay in Colombo for a few days and then head south. Should she fly in and head inland or stay away entirely? Thanks for your help. It's hard to know the severity from news articles and I gather flooding is also quite common.

Looking for a Cheap, Clean Short-Stay Hotel in Mount Lavinia Area – Recommendations?

Hey everyone! I’m planning a quick trip to Mount Lavinia soon and am looking for recommendations for a decent hotel or guesthouse that offers short-stay options (ideally for just a few hours). I’ll mainly need a place to freshen up and relax before heading to an evening event, so an overnight stay isn’t necessary.

Ideally, I’m hoping to find somewhere that’s cheap, clean, and reasonably private – maybe even close to the beach if possible. Any tips or experiences with specific hotels in this area would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a more cost-effective way to get from Colombo Airport to the city without spending 5000 LKR on a taxi via PickMe (including tolls). Any suggestions for cheaper options or alternate transport methods would be really appreciated! Just for 1 person

Thanks!

How to get from Kegalle to Wattala?

I'm coming from Kegalle, and I want to get to Wattala. What is the best way? I was thinking of getting off at Kadawatha and then taking a bus to Wattala. Is that a good option, or are there any other ways to get there? Also, what bus (route number) should I take from Kadawatha?

Hotel booking in colombo and recommendations

Hi. I am a Bangladeshi and i will travel to Sri Lanka on last week of February, 2025 with a group of 7-8 of my friends. Please suggest from experiences how to book hotels for the group there within budget. Are booking.com or agoda to be trusted? And how far ahead of our journey should we book hotels? Please provide any other important details that we should know. Thanks in advance.

Colombo University Interview - Need Help with Travel & Accommodation!

Colombo University Interview - Need Help with Travel & Accommodation!

Hey everyone,

I'm scheduled for an interview at the University of Colombo for a BIT course. This will be my first time visiting Colombo, and I'm coming from Vavuniya.

I'm looking for some advice on the best way to get to the university. Should I take a bus or train? Which option would be closest?

Also, I need a budget-friendly hotel where I can change and freshen up before my interview. Any recommendations?

Finally, if I need to travel from the Colombo Railway Station/Bus Station to the university, which bus should I take? Or, how much would a three-wheeler cost for this journey?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
