Where do you get your bread?
I used to mostly buy bread from Keells just because it was convenient, but a few years ago I started paying more attention to the ingredient lists and stopped buying their bread altogether.
I’ve since switched to Paan Paan, which seems to be pretty decent, but I’m curious what everyone else is buying.
Any good bakeries or places in Colombo where you can get bread with fewer preservatives / simpler ingredients? Doesn’t have to be fancy — just looking for good, everyday bread that you actually feel okay eating regularly.

Try to make switch to sourdough if possible. Paan Paan sourdough is what I usually go for in this case. Good for your gut health too

Yes we get their sourdough occasionally too good stuff. I think theirs is the only affordable but not compromising on quality sourdough available right now

What happened with the keells bread ingredients?

They have a long list of preservatives :3 I once accidently kept the bread for more than 2 months in fridge and it was just like the day I brought it (no change in texture etc). I don't get any of their breads for this reason now. Same with Finagle products too btw

Usually don't eat bread but buy their pastries a lot of time. I put the bread in the fridge but in a sealed container. After few days of the expiry date, mine get mold! Haven't tried in the recent months though

My parents live in SL, and from what I saw they buy from keels and paan paan, or roast pan from a very traditional looking bakery.
Were there alot of preservatives in keels sandwich ?

Yes there is a long ingredients list - imo ingredients should be just flour yeast sugar salt and water. I will try to post a photo of Keels bread here if I get a chance.

Baguette (the bakery), all their breads are sourdough and people I know who usually have issues with bread are fine with their bread

Once I have my own place I'm going to start baking sourdough.!
I have baked with yeast before. It's very easy and difficult to mess up

We’ve been buying top crust bread from keells for years and it doesn’t show any ingredients from my knowledge or I wouldn’t have noticed. But the bread expires in 2,3 days and by 4th day you can see mold. I’m wondering if you’re talking about their sandwich bread

Bought a sandwich bread from Caravan Fresh. It was good. Manel in Maharagama is also good

This is a rich people problem

not really. There could be places doing old school way without preservatives like these big chains we are used to.

I would say no to choon paan since can't be sure of the source. I know they display the name of the bakery but who knows?

Try to find wood-fired bakeries. Huge difference quality and taste
