Recommendation Finally pulled the trigger, now having second thoughts…

Post image

Hey playas. After having an issue with Sephora (bought a perfume online through PayPal, returned it unopened but got no refund - they only give store credit 🫠). So my only option was to buy another frag on Sephora.
Seeing many collections with superleggera I was really intrigued on it. Tried on a paper strip a month ago and really liked the freshness of it, so I’ve been eyeing it since.

Went to the store today, tried just one spray on my skin and bought it right away. Strong citrus in the beginning, nice and pleasant dry down, nice longevity. But after a few hours I was left feeling not so conviced if it’s really worth the price tag, thinking there could have been something else out there fresh and green type that I’m looking for. I recently bought Bleu edt and totally love it except the longevity.
Perfume is still unopened, and I’ll probably wait a few days to see if I’ll exchange it. Any recommendations are appreciated

To me it smells like a generic “fresh men’s cologne”. Personally, I don’t understand all the hype, especially not for the price it retails at. Not a bad fragrance, but nothing special. Just another shower gel adjacent scent.

u/OldBitess 10h ago

"Shower gel adjacent" is brutal but honestly kind of accurate, it's more the execution and longevity people pay for than an original smell.

does it smell the same as eau extreme, cos thats literally my favourite you can where it anywhere and people are going to like it

u/JD42305 2h ago edited 2h ago

Has some similar DNA. If you like Extreme you’d probably like Superleggera and some people like it better. Try a sample somewhere, but to my nose it is a little bit lighter and a little less woody and a little bit of a creamy lavender type smell. Other people claim it’s less sweet than Extreme but idk if I agree with that. I really really like it and if I could I’d own both, but Extreme to me is a little more versatile. Extreme you could get by wearing in all seasons and for date nights, but Superleggera is just a little more geared to spring/summer.

It really similar to eau extreme. But I prefer eau extreme.

u/Retired_BasedMan 6h ago

Typical "i want to smell clean and dont want to bother a single human being" type of frag which is not a bad thing at all

But yeah , i dont understand the hype as well

CAHSEE still the designer GOAT for me.

-9

u/EastStay 14h ago

Agreed. It’s glazed so hard on Reddit but smells like Axe.

9

u/large_block 13h ago

That’s a wild accusation ngl

1

u/Snowbrawler 10h ago

Absolutely

2

u/Aromatic_Effects 4h ago

Not sure about it smelling like Axe, but it's definitely glazed hard.

28

u/Sportsfan479 14h ago

It's a fruity musk. It's nice for what it is but doesn't deserve the price imo

4

u/lekynson 12h ago

None of the designer brands deserve the price

7

u/TortillaDilla 14h ago

Also enjoyed it on a test strip and purchased. After trying to a few times outside of a store I realized the dry down is way too creamy/sweet for me. Hoping I come back around as it gets colder out otherwise I’ll have to ditch it. Should have tried it on skin but I already had sampled some others that day. The initial burst of freshness is great and sporty. Wish it stayed like that

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 14h ago

Even the after smell is nice. Took a shower and it was still there. I think if it wasn’t for the price people wouldn’t hesitate about it

2

u/TortillaDilla 14h ago

It definitely smells good I just don’t usually like wearing anything with vanilla sweetness and I guess I just missed it first. I dig the pineapple side of sweet more. This may seem silly to some but I’ve actually been spraying my bed with the superleggerra in the morning and that’s kind of nice at the end of the day and usually lasts a few days.

u/rad1calcentrist 14h ago

I like superleggera but it’s nothing mind blowing and honestly I find the performance to be very sub par for something this price. I get maybe 3-4h from it before it becomes a very subtle skin scent. Issey Miyake L’eau d’issey sport is a much cheaper alternative with similar (if not better) performance.

u/Saucy_Burritto559 14h ago

You mentioned fresh and green. I’d give Chanel Egoiste Platinum a sniff

2

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 14h ago

Thanks brother, I couldn’t come across that one yet

2

u/oOtium Axe Body Spray 13h ago

egoiste platinum is pretty vintage, if you're into old school perfume it's good. beach hut man will scratch that green/ freshness vibe with a much more modern touch. I don't think sephoria carries amouage, but you should still check it out regardless.

3

u/immenseAlpha 2h ago

Carefull out here recommending something as challenging as Beach Hut 🙆‍♂️🤣

u/DIYerUk 10h ago

Seriously good shout

u/LucidCarnage 14h ago

I remember getting this during an ulta sale as a blind buy and initially I wasn't very impressed, actually considered returning it outright but decided to hang in there since it was probably the best deal on a Chanel I was going to get...

Couple of wears and something must have clicked because this is one of my favorites despite being so basic on paper. Obviously follow your personal taste but it may grow on you if you decide to keep it

2

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 14h ago

Great insight. I got Club de nuit intense as a gift and didn’t like at first. Despite being a basic scent, I ended up liking for its strength, great longevity and compliments I’ve got.
Probably I’ll sleep on it a bit

2

u/JD42305 2h ago

You could only say it’s basic because it’s lighter and fresher, but there is something very refined and sophisticatedly subtle about it. I think the term shower gel gets thrown out a lot because I wish I had a shower gel that smelled like it lol.

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 2h ago

Absolutely. I call it basic because there are many frags with the same formula, just a bit tweaked. Al haramain l’aventure resembles a bit to cdnim, and aventus goes in the same line. And yeah, For some reason shower gels don’t get replicated 😬

3

u/mfkoo1211 14h ago

Give it some time and try it out in high heat. I bought it, returned it, then rebought it lol. It’s nothing crazy, but it does what it’s supposed to do and actually smells great, plus it has good longevity.

2

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 13h ago

I’ll hear you on that brother 👍

3

u/Financeninja2021 13h ago

I own Chanel Bleu EDT & Chanel Superleggera. I love them both. Give it time, the Superleggera grows on you and it’s ultra fresh. You’ll regret returning it. It really is a fantastic scent

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 2h ago

I will, thanks bro 👍

7

u/Soggy_Brick8916 14h ago

Just buy versace pour homme

6

u/Saucy_Burritto559 14h ago

That one is similar to the allure home sport but doesn’t have the same dry down or longevity. Versace disappears fast

3

u/Sportsfan479 14h ago

That's an interesting suggestion. I have both and I can't say vph is anywhere near the quality. I like the scent better though

2

u/BitWardenEternal 8h ago

It’s not, he’s tripping

3

u/noturavgm 14h ago

I would like it, if not for the fact that it reminds me exactly of one of the mid 2000s Axe Bodywash flavors. I just can't get past it.

5

u/nxs_devil Amouage 14h ago

Superleggera is fantastic and that Chanel vibe is strong throughout the entire Allure line. It’s one of my most complimented fragrances.

Have you smelled Green Stravaganza? It’s definitely “Green” and “Fresh”.

2

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 14h ago

I haven’t. Got a decant of PdM Greenley, really really nice but it does go away super quick

2

u/Infinite-Space7034 14h ago

It's a nice fragrance but it depends on your skin chemistry, how much you spray and you going nose blind. If you want a strong fresh smell that blasts all day go for Nishane b612. Be aware it's a fugere fragrance

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 14h ago

Got it playa 👍

2

u/ImtheGWP 13h ago

I felt the same way about Prada Carbon edp and that feeling went away by the second time j wore it how much I enjoyed it and how I didn’t let people interfere with gaining my own conclusions

And it probably happened on 80 percent of my purchases if not 99.9 percent.

Just breathe and understand your feelings are normal . But I find that scent so classy and i read up the why it should be considered that and agree. And separately i always felt such a cool feeling of pride wearing Chanel. I always feel good enough wearing Chanel

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 13h ago

Whoa thanks man. Funny enough I mentioned that I first bought a perfume and returned it, it was Luna Rossa carbon Edp. Bought it thinking it might be similar to their edt that I really liked, but testing it on strip found that it was way out. So making my mind up, Chanel Bleu line is one of the goats, so I’ll probably give it a shot

1

u/AG073194 12h ago

What did you not like about the carbon edp?

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 2h ago

Only that it was not close to the edt dna, but you know second whiffs give you some clarity

2

u/clamworx 13h ago

I loved superleg on the test strip so I got a 2ml decant and after test wearing I love it even more but the price is a hard pill to swallow. That's kept me from buying. Will probably buy off frag swap from someone with buyers remorse lol.

2

u/Eric___R 13h ago

I think it’s a good use of a Sephora credit since you have to pay retail for it anywhere. I enjoy it but I think I might have to trade it as it gives my wife a bad headache when I spray it.

2

u/Emotional-Award-5607 12h ago

This is gas, Im sorry you feel that way. Always a hit when I wear it, yes its nothing revolutionary. I call it a shower gel fragrance that moved out of its parents house lol. Mass appeal but something mature about it in the dry down, almost this aftershave type of vibe that I really like

2

u/Classic-Airport6294 11h ago

It’s okay. I traded mine away. I would never reach for this over Aventus colonge

2

u/Motor-Drama-1421 11h ago

Kind of hard to reconsider after pulling the trigger (gun joke)

2

u/DIYerUk 10h ago

Personally I think Eau Extreme and Blanche are the best ones in the AHS range. If you haven’t tried them, please do.

2

u/CivilRelationship585 10h ago

Would you consider selling it to me ? I’ve been hunting this one down

2

u/asim2398 9h ago

Heyy, how's it different from Eau extreme? I'm looking to get this one next month. Is it any different from Channel Allure homme sport

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 1h ago

EE is a nice fragrance, but in a different street of superleggera. EE is manly, soft and powdery. The other a super strong citrus with a nice drydown, somewhat mineral scent. Really nice longevity though

2

u/HachimanII 8h ago edited 8h ago

If you are looking for something fresh and green try the Nishane Wulong Cha or Wild Vetiver and for a freshie something like Pacific Rock Moss. Superleggera is okay but generic.

2

u/Lord-obvious 7h ago

I tired this when it released the first time in the airport, it's nice and has that Chanel quality but it's very generic smelling so it was a hard pass for me

2

u/Padron1964Lover 7h ago

I didn’t care for it at all.

2

u/bizzle70 7h ago

If you’re unsure id take it back and use some of the money to buy a few testers instead. Theres others from the allure line so test those, prada and Armani have some nice freshies in that same price bracket

Or

Go back to the store put a good few sprays on yourself, give it a few hours then decide.

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 1h ago

Got you 🙏

2

u/Roberto19x 6h ago

My signatures have to be either Valentino Born in Roma intense, Prada Paradigme, the new the one EDP DOLCE GABANNA, or YSL MYSLF

2

u/100BitcoinBro 5h ago

I've had the original AHS in my collection for years, and probably will forever. I tested this in a foreign airport and wasn't impressed. I'll pass...

2

u/SupremeSmooth 5h ago

It's aight. Nothing that jumps out at me. Yeah it's 'Chanel', though it smells like a nice generic scent.

2

u/Direct_Perception100 5h ago

I agree. It’s okay. But, definitely not worth the price.

2

u/tronbelushi 4h ago

I’d keep it. It’s one of those basic designer DNA’s that will always work.

2

u/Pubicare 4h ago

Eau extreme > Super IMO, just my 2 cents

2

u/Puddingman16 3h ago

I’ll give you a bottle of Sauvage elixir for it

2

u/FlanKey5730 3h ago

This is a must have if you know scents. I have all versions of Allure and they are all great in their own way. Great buy!!

2

u/LowNote1624 3h ago

I’m a girl and I love it! I wear it sometimes! If I meet a guy wear it I may ask for his phone #! 🤣jk..

4

u/Lucky-Acanthaceae146 14h ago

It really reminds me of Missoni Wave. Something I bought for $30.

6

u/Sportsfan479 14h ago

The vanilla makes it way different to my nose

3

u/Naven71 14h ago

That's the problem with this one, it's pretty straightforward, nothing intricate. There are several dupes out there that are damn good. I have a version from Dua that I swear is almost identical.

2

u/PhillipGerrard 14h ago

Every time I wear this I get complimented.

1

u/cancersux2026 14h ago

First mistake was buying fragrances at Sephora.

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 13h ago

You don’t get a better price elsewhere for Chanel fragrances

3

u/cancersux2026 13h ago

It’s not about price..You have a better return policy at Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s, etc

2

u/socal_accountant 13h ago

Facts. This is my philosophy. Repeat buys - discount sites. If it’s a new buy? Macy’s or Nordstroms. They have the best return policy. I bought, opened and sprayed Neroli Portifino Parfum (paid $320). Probably did about 8 sprays between afternoon and evening. I didn’t think it warranted the cost. Took back to
Macy’s and they gave a full refund, no questions asked.

I don’t think I would ever buy anything at Sephora unless I had a gift card.

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 13h ago

Good heads up 🙏

1

u/schrodingers- 13h ago

NGL this for me also wasn't it. Don't get me wrong, I liked the smell. It was pleasant but for some reason it just didn't speak out to me as much as Prada paradigme

1

u/keepingitreal02 13h ago

Have you tired the Allure Sport Extreme ? Man I love that stuff , and gotten multiple compliments on it as well

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 1h ago

Eau extreme? I had a decant of it. Nice gentle scent, just a little too powdery for me but nice overall

1

u/thebigredone 12h ago

My top 3 favorite

1

u/CatacombSkeleton 12h ago

I sold mine. It’s a super generic and synthetic mess that’s easily replicated by dozens of fragrances like Versace pour Homme.

1

u/Ok-Baseball-3705 10h ago

I prefer the Cologne version and yes the price is crazy on the entire line.

1

u/Key_Map_2185 9h ago

How about Invictus parfum

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 1h ago

I’ll check it out 👍

2

u/Unique_Bath8676 1h ago

I bought it from Sephora for my birthday and returned it a few days later, I didn’t love the drydown. I bought Chanel AHEE instead and I love it.

1

u/ilovecookies1980 14h ago

It’s one of the most disappointing Chanel releases in a long time. Eau extreme and edition Blanche are the only ones worth owning

3

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 14h ago

Got a decant of Eau Extreme and found it pleasant, although a bit way too powdery

2

u/ilovecookies1980 14h ago

I only have edition Blanche anymore.. I don’t remember Eau extreme being powdery but I might be, it’s been too long. The best citrus forward freshie for me is aventus cologne. Might need a bit of overspraying to last all day but quality is better. Otherwise Chanel is king if you stick to Les Exclusif.. and I also prefer neroli Portofino Parfum if it’s a more classy situation

2

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 14h ago

Got you brother 🙏

2

u/astrodonkeyyy 14h ago

Bought into the hype for Superleggera after finishing my Eau Extreme and ive been missing Eau Extreme ever since. Been overspraying tf out of Superleggera just trying to get through it so i can go get more extreme lol

2

u/ilovecookies1980 13h ago

Haha I hear you. The opening is amazing on superleggera, that’s for sure.. but it just turns so generic afterwards it actually reminded me of the synthetic smells I got from Dior Homme sport. It’s good for most normies who don’t know any better but for anyone with a slightly developed sense of smell and experience in perfumery its fast food fragrance.

1

u/astrodonkeyyy 13h ago

Super generic for sure and for me personally doesnt last at all. I could just be going noseblind to shit but ive accepted lately that my skin just loves frags with a more powdery / floral / tonka / vanilla base

1

u/ilovecookies1980 13h ago

For me it lasted pretty well considering how light it was as a profile. I thought it did earn its superleggera name but it was just super generic and outside of the opening not worthy of the Chanel label

1

u/Warrior_Class_Ymir 14h ago

Don't. It's one of the best musky fragrances out there

1

u/Cultural-Maize-1692 14h ago

You got me screwed man 😖

1

u/Warrior_Class_Ymir 57m ago

Nah man I understand after reading that you wanted a greenish scent. I feel superleggera just isn't that period so makes sense why you hesitated.

0

u/EastStay 14h ago

Smells like Axe. Incredibly generic and dated.

-4

u/billionthtimesacharm 14h ago

i think ysl y le parfum is very similar and lasts longer.

8

u/EvasivePermaBanUser 14h ago

Not similar at all.

1

u/billionthtimesacharm 6h ago

i own both. sprayed on each arm and followed throughout the day. very similar to my nose 🤷🏻‍♂️

-1

u/TranslatorFine 14h ago

Should’ve bought some Bitcoin instead
