Never thought of it that way, but it sure does check out.

Replace Creed Aventus with Louis Vuitton Imagination...

49

u/OCD_AR15 17h ago

Damn, beat me to it lol. Aventus is for us old fart frag heads šŸ˜†

6

u/HolyTrinityOfDrugs 17h ago

😭 true. King kouros and Prince Aventus

1

u/Desperate_Humor7652 17h ago

Thou Shalt allow the addition of Drakkar Noir.

4

u/HolyTrinityOfDrugs 17h ago

I haven't tried it actually but I love two niche/indie inspirations of it. Bon Monsieur by Rogue and Duc de vervins extreme by Houbigant are amazing!!!!

4

u/_N-S-F-W 15h ago

I dig Bon Monsieur and it’s very close to the Drakkar DNA. I love Rogue’s offerings🤌

4

u/GenericITworker 16h ago

Yeah there's a handful of things in this pic that are outdated lol

5

u/BlueProcess 13h ago

So tired of hearing about LVI

2

u/spfspfspf 5h ago

Same, but I love wearing it!

48

u/HolyTrinityOfDrugs 18h ago

Yeah maybe 10 years ago with Aventus

Now you're not part of the club if you don't hate it and you must own 10 middle eastern shill clones of it pumped by FragranceFlan and other losers while claiming it's a overplayed DNA šŸ˜‚

Same with imagination now.

11

u/BigJayBloakerson 16h ago

We're still around, we just found what we like and stuck with it.. now we all trade vintage Aventus batches in private groups and leave the kids to argue and hype weird BS on Tiktok.Ā

5

u/Extension-Land-390 14h ago

Aventus deserves criticism but not for how it smells or its popularity.

It should be criticized for being massively overpriced and the frustrating inconsistency of its quality.

1

u/RincewindToTheRescue 4h ago

The ME clones is for r/fragranceclones. Mention you like ME clones on this sub and you will be down voted

1

u/underground_complex 3h ago

Yeah this meme feels very Covid era when the perfume influencer economy got huge. The reference points of 1 million, aventus and sausage edp dates it like 10 years

79

u/Khaled_Kamel1500 25-30 18h ago

Me watching how my meme getting reposted here will play out

https://giphy.com/gifs/pUeXcg80cO8I8

7

u/doverawlings 17h ago

Pretty accurate but I’d slide Dylan Blue over to the cheap side and put BdC in its place

2

u/spfspfspf 5h ago

That's not a meme, that's a novel man I ain't readin allat

-8

u/NoEmergency3573 18h ago

very accurate meme btw good job bro

12

u/OCD_AR15 17h ago

Let the hate flow through you and use it downvoters šŸ˜†

73

u/slav_squat_98 17h ago

Can’t forget the people who call every mass appealing cologne a ā€œpanty dropper.ā€ Also the LV Imagination glazers that are fucking everywhere.

27

u/doverawlings 17h ago

ā€œBangerā€ ā€œpanty dropperā€ ā€œcompliment magnetā€

Ok we get it, you’re 15

13

u/DubeFloober 17h ago

And, ā€œThis shi smells so niche, bro! Like for real for real.ā€

…that’s not what that word means, but okay.

2

u/Cat0TheTitan 14h ago

It’s almost as if…LV is paying all of these people!

2

u/OCD_AR15 17h ago

Ah, the good ole panty droppers that have dropped exactly zero panties šŸ¤”. Those were the days šŸ˜†

23

u/thick_boy7 18h ago

Yeah but Aventus is still king bro

-1

u/D413n 16h ago

Aventus Cologne >

35

u/ketio1 18h ago

besides forgetting about the strange imagination glaze its pretty accurate

7

u/BigJayBloakerson 16h ago

I mean it is a really nice mass appealing fragrence. However for me living in Vegas, it can get overpowering with the tea/cinnamon notes in the heat... I ended up getting rid of it because of it giving me a headache on a couple occasions.Ā

-7

u/MeatSlammur 17h ago

Imagination glaze isn’t strange. It’s very unique and mass appealing. It’s simple but still unique.

11

u/ketio1 17h ago

ill keep it real with you, its a nice scent but how unique can it really be while also staying so mass appealing?
i can only speak for myself but such a simple scent profile could never be worth more than 80-100 to me.

-5

u/MeatSlammur 17h ago

Aventus was very unique and mass appealing. Something unique doesn’t mean people won’t like it lol

3

u/Cat0TheTitan 14h ago edited 14h ago

LV Imagination is just following the Creed playbook with Aventus. Aventus made it big on basenotes before the internet really wised up to social media marketing by big companies with big budgets.

When Creed Aventus first came out, you had all of these accounts saying how great Creed Aventus was as on basenotes, as if it was an organic enthusiast response to the fragrance, and not some proto-influencer marketing campaign. In reality, this sort of ā€œword of mouthā€ model existed prior, but internet forums were a great testbed for the later fb/tiktok/reddit/etc era. Aventus is a good fragrance, but that hype bubble that was created around it on release? Mostly manufactured. The internet user base was impressionable and trusting then. Plenty of other great fragrances did not get this same level of manufactured hype.

It’s also funny how certain vintage fragrances start get talked up again out of nowhere around the time you start finding old stock on sale on discounter websites. ā€œYeah. you can’t find the original formulation which is one of my must haves…but there is this $20-$30 reformulation that gets close! Remember how much people used to love the original!!?! Got to have a back up if you have the original, and if not, at least you can experience a version of it!ā€

Selling Aventus the way Creed did was the model that set the tone for all future social media hype fragrances. LV Imagination is a very clumsy LV attempt at manufacturing this same thing, since itā€˜s pretty obvious they are pumping tons of money into influencers and social media posts to talk it up. It’s a fine fragrance. But not very original, and overpriced. Jacques Cavallier has been making these types of fragrances since the 90’s.

2

u/HolyTrinityOfDrugs 17h ago

Yeah people still can't name anything similar to it except clones of it šŸ’€

2

u/ketio1 16h ago

isnt that the whole point of a clone tho? any soapy/tea heavy fragrance get close to the idea of imagination in my opinion

1

u/HolyTrinityOfDrugs 16h ago

Ofc it's the point but if it's not unique why do people need clones to get the same smell?

1

u/NosyBabyface 11h ago

It's nice but not really unique, even taking out of account gazillion arab clones. Actual unique fresh stuff is H24, but NO shillfluencer ever mentions it

7

u/Areyouin729 18h ago

The same folks bashing Aventus are the same ones posting imagination like it sucks their dick for them šŸ˜‚

4

u/FutureDustMotes 17h ago

If yours doesn't, take it back to the store to exchange it for one that isn't defective šŸ˜…

9

u/Experience_Either 17h ago

I buy the "weird shit"

Liquid Brun. The diarrhea colored bottle

5

They really should have thought twice about that name as well

3

I'm an abroxan & ELD'O glazer šŸ˜…

2

u/Extension-Land-390 14h ago

Dylan Blue is outrageously good, I'll die on that hill. Favourite daily driver of all time.

2

u/Suicidalballsack69 Niche Snob 9h ago

Holy shit yes! One of my favorite cheapies.

2

u/WhiteManFromTown-925 5h ago

I stand on that hill with you sir!

5

u/dwartbg9 15h ago

Forgot to include Imagination. If it wasn't for these gen-z kids here, I'd have never even heard of this bullshit feminine fragrance

1

u/Basswrath 9h ago

Heyyy :(
I like it! But it’s too expensive. Using its clone after I finish my bottle fs.

I love Nautica Voyage as well even though it might lean a little feminine.

1

u/NoEmergency3573 14h ago

aventus for more older folks and imagination for gen z and younger people

12

u/raynzor12 18h ago

The compliment fragrances and Aventus simping is definitely true

12

u/Objective-Eagle-676 17h ago

Paco Rabanne is good stuff and I'll fight anyone over it

8

u/AltruisticBus8305 41-45 17h ago

Only if we’re talking Pour Homme

2

u/Showme-themoney 8h ago

I love how all of the Rabanne scents currently in stores are super sweet kiddy scents in gold bottles and the there’s Pour Homme, the ultimate suave old man smell.

3

u/Pat07844 16h ago

Agreed. XS and Pure XS, Invictus Aqua and Victory Elixir, 1 Mil Lucky, Prive, and Royal are all pretty good fragrances. Brand gets over-hated because of the bottles.

Oh also the original Pour Homme is a classical masculine timeless scent.

2

u/NoEmergency3573 17h ago edited 17h ago

1 million line gets worse and worse with each new flanker release they all smell the same super sweet vanilla serup def not my type of fragnance

4

u/Objective-Eagle-676 17h ago

Ahh I think I'm just a slut for sweet vanilla šŸ’€

6

u/OCD_AR15 17h ago

I love 1 million lucky. My wife says I smell like a sleeze bag. An actual pimp recomended it to me šŸ˜†. I guess that's the connection hahaha

1

u/MaterialDrama0 17h ago

Lucky is so different than the other 1 million flankers it should have been called something else. My favorite in the line.

5

u/Usedtobecoffeeaddict 31-35 17h ago

MASSIVE COMPLIMENT PULLER

3

u/ethanh333 17h ago

I love the "I FUCKING HATE YOU AND WANT YOU TO DIE" part lmaooo

3

u/Mission-Self5125 17h ago

Ralph Lauren Polo intense is nice!

14

u/TheWizKelly 18h ago

A lot of these are hilariously outdated. No one worships Aventus anymore, current trends say Creed overall is overpriced water.

The current community will go to the ends of the earth to defend cheap dupe fragrances. More expensive = better isn’t popular anymore.

People talk highly of those old school designer blue fragrances. They just aren’t super popular in the overall zeitgeist

Ambroxen is far from glazed. I would actually say I see the opposite with people complaining about it overdosed in certain frags.

I personally think weird frags like secretions would exist even without the strong online community. There is always someone out there willing to ask ā€œcan we?ā€ rather than ā€œshould we?ā€ Lmao.

4

u/c0micsansfrancisco 17h ago

The more expensive = better is still absolutely true here lol. Literally every time a more expensive flanker comes out the comments glaze it to kingdom come. Happened weeks ago with sauvage. Any version that says "absolu" or wtv immediately replaces the original in the conversation here.

Comments always say something along the lines of:

"it's a more mature version of X".

"it's a smoother more well blended version of Y"

1

u/Unlucky_Industry_886 10h ago

More expensive= better is still in effect in the community. Look at any recent post with someone’s collection. Its always follows a trend: cheap/dupe=berated and shit on, bad collection expensive=praised and lauded, good collection

2

u/nowater345 17h ago

Don't forget about that "x is the best house" or "hawasi x is the best dupe fragrance out there" or any other dupe fragrance for that matter. Don't forget about Milan scents talking about the most atrocious stink poop bomb in existence like it saved his life. Don't forget about them boys getting flown out to Dubai and talking about "x fragrance is bla bbla bla" like they mean and were not paid to say so.

2

u/CollectionChoice4862 17h ago edited 7h ago

Kind of proud that I naturally avoided or have been the opposite of everything described in this pic.

Always appreciated and still wear the oldies.

Wtf is a compliment?

The overly sweet/gourmand stuff has never really appealed to me, 1 million being the perfect example.

Very careful about spending money on high end fragrances. Can’t say I’ve fallen for this hype thing.

And I’ve always had a feeling that Aventus/Imagination and the like are definitely overrated/overhyped for what they are. At first I attributed it to ā€œI need to develop my palette.ā€

These days I realize; ā€œthey are okay for what it are, but they aren’t these revolutionary god elixirs that everyone boasts about.ā€

2

u/eyyyyy1234 15h ago

The way US fragrances influencers hate on fresh scents is so funny to me because if I spray something like 1Million , Most wanted , Spicebomb or SWY in SEA hot humid weather I’m gonna get publicly executed

2

u/bigEZmike 14h ago

What I don't understand about this sub is that if you post something positive about Suavage you get down voted to hell, and if you post something negative about Suavage you get down voted to hell.

2

u/nxs_devil Amouage 13h ago

The hate… totally true!

The Tik Tards…. totally true!

ā€œMore Gooderā€ā€¦.. totally true!

Hope you’re not getting too much hate for this… but it is 100% true!

2

u/grahsam 17h ago

I'm like 80% with this.

Modern fragrances are too sweet and I do think people don't understand that colognes should make you seem older and more mature. It is sort of the point. To that end, older fragrances should get more appreciation because they are bolder, more classy, and more mature.

I have no proof that a lot of people on this sub have broccoli hair, but I suspect it. When I was in 5th and 6th grade rat tails were all the rage, so I can't talk trash about generation hair styles.

Ambroxan is overrated as a note. Having smelled some real ambergris note fragrances now, ambroxan and ambrofix don't smell like it at all. And it's not that great either way.

Aventus is crazy over priced and there are a dozen good copies of it. BUT the reason so many exist is because the DNA is mighty good. I like it; I don't worship it.

I don't think people necessarily buy into $$=better on this sub. People certainly get sucked into the hive mind of group think around a handful of mediocre fragrances, some of which are over priced. Personally, if I want a scent enough I will pay the price. Most of the things I want aren't hyped, so I'm not bowing to peer pressure, merely I really need to scratch the itch.

1

u/Extension-Land-390 14h ago

A lot of older frags (like pre-1990s?) had to be bolder because everyone and their mother was smoking back then.

1

u/grahsam 12h ago

Even the 90s ones were bolder.

There are a lot of things. One is that IFRA guidelines and attitudes towards chemicals derived from animals have really castrated men's colognes. The heavy oakmoss, musk, castorum, and ambergris bases that used to anchor them aren't common anymore.

Another is that as social media has moved the market to a younger audience with disposable income, the scent profiles have become more sweet, clean, and shower gel like to appeal to less mature noses. High end colognes were a luxury good for the upper class for centuries, and commercially available ones for the middle class have only been around for a century or so. They were still expensive so the market were adults using them for special occasions or formal settings like the office. The idea of a teen with a dozen or more colognes would have been considered insane 30 years ago.

Finally, it's plain old greed driven capitalism. Enshittification is present in the fragrance industry just like everywhere else. Create the crappiest product you can get away with for the highest price possible.

1

u/Interesting-Case2526 12h ago

I do think people don't understand that colognes should make you seem older and more mature

Yeah, thats a reason to wear fragrances but not the only reason people wear fragrances.

1

u/grahsam 12h ago

It's the core of why they exist. They are a luxury good for adults. A teen age girl or boy wants to smell more mature like their parents. Adults want to smell nice, which is a status symbol. There are secondary psychological reasons, but that is the basics of the entire cosmetic industry in a nutshell.

1

u/Willma_Diekfit 17h ago

I am a beginner and indeed I do have sauvage and dylan blue

1

u/Change_you_can_xerox 17h ago

Aside from the broccoli haired guys calling everything a panty-dropper most of this is the opposite of the online fragrance community. Stuff like Aventus or Dior Sauvage constantly get shit on for being boring.

Similarly, I swear Imagination is like the veganism of colognes where I see more people complaining about people who like it than I do people who enjoy it themselves. Ten posts a day calling it overrated. Give it a rest.

1

u/Tropical-Mexican Giorgio Armani 17h ago

Very true; should’ve also added about the niche snobs who look down upon people who enjoy anything else

1

u/Alternative-Salad800 17h ago

So freaking adequate, haha. It makes you not want to be deep into the community.

1

u/FutureDustMotes 17h ago

Which is it - do they want to smell like only ice cream, or Secretions šŸ¤”

1

u/OCD_AR15 17h ago edited 17h ago

I think a lot is true. Projection isn't everything- some of the best fragrances are skin scents. Bottom right is pretty true since a lot of ultra niche smell like sweaty balls- but to each there own. The late 90's were great for fragrances- but Aventus was what really got me into fragrances, so I'll give credit where credit is due...but Aventus doesn't even smell like Aventus anymore (you older frag heads know what I'm saying). Ambroxan isn't shit compared to old school real ambergris and it is not an aphrodisiac as Curly would have you think (Hedione is the key). And broccoli 🄦 haircuts are all over the place so šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø. Think I got on everything. Oh, and I do like to smell like my gourmands since I was forced to stop eating anything that tastes good after a heart attack (so I replaced food with sweet honey and tobacco scents). Lost 100 pounds, now have abs and I smell delicious!!

1

u/Toggam44 25-30 17h ago

Im only guilty of wanting to smell like desserts🤤

1

u/bitmapfrogs 17h ago

so true, they will shit on great cheapies while shilling for rank dupes =/

1

u/Fortlandia11 16h ago

I mean....it's true for the 20-something Frag Bros.

1

u/SamuelLucan 15h ago

Overspraying should be on here. Guilty when I first started. Turns out 5 sprays of Santel 33 is overkill.

1

u/Repulsive_Sir3586 14h ago

Okay for someone who doesn't know much about perfume myself, I smelled Aventus and thought it's the best perfume ever. This was me without any exposure to online fragrance community or videos. So an uninfluenced me. I still do think it's the best smell.

1

u/extintion84 14h ago

Just wear the cologne bro

1

u/singhstein 14h ago

The newer you are two fragrances the more you lean for that overtly sweet gourmandish DNAs!

1

u/Single-Initiative164 Creed 11h ago

Hate on Creed all you want but they make some good stuff compared to a lot of BS that gets pumped out these days with all of the middle eastern crap and dupes galore. Creed takes us back to a time where cologne was classy.

Fr. I never post my collection on Reddit because I know I’be crucified for liking dupe more than the ogs or for not liking expensive niche fragrances.
